    Grrr!!!!
Okay so i finally got my cpu, and, of course, on installing it and all the other bits and bobs, hit the power switch to find, ta daaaaa...no f*cking power.
    Nothing.
Not even a twitch of a fan.
    Can anyone help??Heres the specs:

    n4ce 'chicago' atx case
    Asus k8v se deluxe edition
    Amd 64 3000 socket 754
    1gb corsair memory
    120gb western digital caviar
geforce fx 5200 pci (sh!t i know but it was only supposed tob e temporary)
and, the icing on the tombstone,
fairly lame 'dragon' 350watt psu. (came with the case)

Ive stripped the pc to its bare minimum (i.e mobo, cpu, ram and gfx card) and tried to boot and still no boot. I read the other thread about the screws being too tight, so i took out all the screws on the mobo, still no joy. I tried shouting and harsh language, still wont turn on. Im at my wits end and if i dont sort it soon ill more than likely engage in some sort of homicidal rampage, can anyone help??

You had it plugged in, right? ;)

Have you double checked all the power connections, making sure they're nice and tight and sitting in the correct plugs? Sorry, but its all I can think of right now...

lol im not THAT braindead...not yet, anyway.
All plugged in, 4 pin and 12 pin (or howevermany pins the big one is) power connector. Theres a p6 connector on the psu and no p6 connector on my mobo, i dont think this makes any odds tho, does it?
I put the system together about a month or so ago, but only got the cpu today, so basically the mobos been sitting idle all that time. It wouldnt have gotten fried from esd or anything while sitting there?
I swear to christ if the mobos b0rked ill bounce it off someones head..probably my own!

I got a bit of a fright when the same thing happened to me on my first attempted boot on my first attempted build.....

My solution was that the power button was incorrectly wired. I knew that power was going to my mobo because there's an LED on it. Something to check anyway....

    <edit>
Oh, in answer....the 6 pin being loose makes no odds....Once the big fat ATX connector is in place correctly, you should be grand. You can short two of the pins on the big connector to see if your PSU is working (the fans will kick in). Google it to find which ones.

Hmm... Its a possibility, but probably fairly unlikely...

Its been a while since I put my machine together, but I think I had to connect a power connection to the motherboard... Better consult the documentation, just to be sure...

Firstly, look at the back of the power supply unit, and see if there is an "on/off" switch on it. Some psu's have em, some don't.

Secondly, is the fuse in the plug gone? Test the machine with a known working plug.

Thirdly, triplecheck you actually have wired up the on/off switch correctly, and try experimenting if al else fails :p

Exactly what happened me when I was building my first AMD system.. The starter switch, in the manual, had the "+" on the top row of pins. Si I figured it went left to right, like all of the other fuxing switches, lights etc...But, NOPE, the genius that designed this mobo thought it would be a great idea to put this one DOWN and have the REST go across
It took me 3 days to figure out just WTF was going on... Such a n00b mistake, I know, but it happens. Especialy when you have a certain state of mind, and the mobo was quite similar to my Abit Is7-E so I had the idea that the power button was in the right set of pins. So yeah, this is defo something to make sure of

    Thanks guys.
Yeah the power lead is fine, and theres no power switch ont he psu. (thats what i thought at first too, i was lookign around for it like 'where the feck is that damn switch gone')
Ill double check the power switch connection, make sure its in properly. Its jsut such a pain in the ass, even if the thing would turn on i could troubleshoot it, but its like dealing with a deaf mute patient who youve no idea whats wrong with!
Theres a led on the board alright, however its not lit.

Well i finally figured out what was wrong.
The god damn power supply, as i thought!!! I tried the psu in a different comp and it wasnt working, so i opened it up and sure enough, there was a blown fuse in it. The fuse is a bit mad tho and needs tob e soldered tot he board, and i dont have a soldering iron, so ill just wait and get a new psu, seeing as how i was gonna get a new one anyway.
I just hope all the dicking around hasnt buggered my board! Ill keep you posted on the build, thanks for the help all.
