As from Friday CPW will be selling the Nokia 7600 on 3Pay for the stupidly-reduced price of £29.99, with the usual minimum £15 E-Voucher top-up at POS.
This looks like its probably going to be a CPW-exclusive price, which is definitely available in-store. Don't know about on-line though.
It's a pretty good phone for the price-much better than the crappy NEC phones offered recently, and, while it can't do video calling, it is Bluetooth-enabled. Previous price for this in-store was a disgusting £299.99

AS these are so easy to unlock its almost criminal value, think u have to buy em instore tho, gonna try get one

Will it work as a pure 2G phone ...eg on Meteor....or will it get twitchy if it spots a 3G network signal ?

    TIA

I need to get rid of this 5110, only have it a week and its doing my head in.
Seems to be a load of people heading up tomorrow to pick this phone up..

Just rang the Newery (got through at last!) - £44.99 (guess you've got to pay for the £15 credit?) - 2 in stock, not allowed to hold them for people. Another 10 or 15 in on Monday.

    well,
Managed to pick up the last one left in belfast today. Have it charging at the minute. Got it unlocked on the street today for a tenner so all systems go.

Just to answer a couple of questions:
Will it work as a pure 2G phone ...eg on Meteor

    after you've unlocked it, yes.
    is this offer on tomorrow

Yes! It's on until the end of October... provided they don't completely go out of stock.

By the way, each store gets between 5-12 7600's in each working day. Half of which go to people who have reserved them in advance. I got lucky today as the shop had just recieved a delivery.. even so.. all 8 where gone within the half hour.

For 55pound (80euro) (inc unlocking fee) it's a great phone with many features. And with the included 15pounds to spend surfing the net with it when i get back up to Belfast, it's a BARGAIN!

If you have somebody in uk to get it delivered too, you can have it buy it online for same price here

    http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=payg&handset=76003

and can be unlocked for free on the net

Seems like a dinky likkle phone indeed.
Does anyone know if the CPW will sell them in their shops this side of the border and will they be as cheap???

which site do you recommend for unlocking a 7600?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 196 ✭✭PCwiggum

Thanks for the original post Sharkman - got one of these phones myself in Newry on Friday. I used the following site to unblock it...

    http://www.trycktill.com/eng/unlock_swe.asp

The only problem I have now when I use my Vodafone SIM is that the WAP isn't working. It's still trying to connect to the UK providers site. I played around with the GPRS settings but had no luck.

Anyone know what to change the settings to? I contacted Vodafone but they weren't much help as they don't support this phone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭mickey mac

Thanks for the web site Pcwiggum! I was beginning to think that nobody was going to reply.
I'll try and unlock my phone straight away,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 192 ✭✭mickey mac

Just a word of warning about the unlocking web site posted by Pcwiggum! I tried it in the last half hour without success.
It generates 7 codes and you are only allowed 5 attempts, Well it didn't work for my phone, but a more worrying thing is that my PC is running very slowly now I think Their may be a dialler or virus associated with that site.

    it says

you only have to enter 1 code, number 7

    or

sometime you have to enter number 1 and then number 7

What exactly is the story with getting hold of one these phones?

Would probably have to drive up from Galway so that'd be a bitch of a trip to make for nothing. There's no way of booking one so there's no way of guaranteeing one is there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 506 ✭✭✭LOTTOWINNER

I'm also having problems with that unlocking website. My anti-virus software is not happy with it! I for one won't be taking a chance on that site.

    A Cynic might say

"Newry Is The Nearest Carphone Warehouse " located where there is a functional 3G Mobile service which is why you have to go there to buy a 3G phone.

I was in the store in Newry today and there are none of the phones in stock. They prob won't have them til monday at the earliest.

However due to people going in and buying loads of them at once, you are limited to 2 purchases. Also you can't pay cash. This is due to people going in buying them and then getting them unlocked and not actually activiting the 3g sim. I can't see how paying by visa will stop this but that is what the sales assisstant told me, just letting you all know.

BTW they don't accept Laser up there so its Credit card or Switch card.

Really good deal though, was playing about with the phone today in the shop and it seem pretty cool.

TBH in CPW Newry they have at least 10,00 Stories.

I have been there twice and got 4 phones for family and friend.

It is the luck of the draw methinks

can someone summerize what the story is here?im kinda confused. Was thinking of picking up one of these. (That price is just too good).
but i dont want to end up driving all the way up and finding that there is a catch?Whats the story with unlocking it?Is that all legal etc? Most importantly, is ther any way of reserving them? Its a nice deal, as this phone is 499 on expansys!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,510 ✭✭✭sprinkles

You can't reserve them, the only catch is you have to buy 15£ credit (not much of a catch really) and you m,ight noy get one if you drive all the way up. Your better off ringing up and making sure they are in stock before you drive up. Great bargain though!

I went up today on a tip-off from a member of CPW staff. Waited around for 3 hours and managed to get 1 !!!. They are getting wise to the southerners coming up and buying them.

I gave an address in Belfast and told them I'm going to college up there.

Bloody nice phone, you can tell it's top of the line sh!t aswell.

For those who bought this phone and want to use it on 02 or Vodafone in Ireland, you can get the software flashed free of charge at any Nokia repair center. I brought mine into "The Telephone Shop" on Dawson street today and it's up and running. Only took a couple of hours.

Told them it wasn't getting a signal because of the wrong software, blah blah.

Unpon further inspection I've noticed that the settings for the 3 network in WAP are back (i deleted these before handing it into the shop), so they didn't flash the memory at all ???

Also noticed that it works fine with my 02 card and even connects to the 02 3G network, but not with Vodafone.

    Oh woe is me :(

Right Dudes How to see the menu:

    Goto Settings:

Then to Menu 4 or Phone Settings, then scroll down and you have operator settings not needed continue to
Network mode
should be the 7th in there.

hey, im thinking of getting one of these up north. If youve gotten one in the last few days, can you tell me, do you need an english address or anything.I dont wanna drive all the way up and not be able to get one. I might give the "im in college up north" story.

Hmmm.... thought the missus could use a new phone. Got the last one in Castle Court yesterday afternoon. Unlocked it last night using website listed on first page.

But, with a Vodafone sim in, the phone is trying to connect to the 3G Vodafone network and being refused (this is because that network is being tested by Vodafone and not generally open) so, the sim connects and gets a full signal then dies completly and this continues in an endless loop.

Trying to manually select the network you will notice that Meteor and O2 are 2g but Vodafone is both 2g / 3g. So I think the way to fix it is to prevent the phone from using the 3g network altogether.

If someone knows of a code or function that allows that please let us know. Otherwise the phone will have to be sold to a non vodaphone user or via ebay. Shame cause it's a really good phone.

Or can it be rom flashed? If so, does it have to go to a Nokia repair centre or can it be done using software. Afterall, Nokia supply the USB interface cable....

    Anyone else with a fix?

    Cheers
