How long does it usually take for people to convert from Xvid to DVD ?
im using TMPGEnc to convert an old xvid film i have to DVD, and its E.T.A is 17hrs..

    i have 1 gig ram, amd64 3400, SATA hd ..

is this normal, im just messing around at the moment, but 17 hrs seems slightly long. ?

Does anybody have any suggestions of software for this, or faster ways to do this.. i would really appreciate some help..

i have googled up and down, just curious of anybodies experiences with specs similar

and note i am *Actually* converting a legitimate and legal file for someone.. :)

It shouldn't take that long. My guess is the eta should drop if you let it run longer.

A64's aren't as good for encoding as Pentiums but it still shouldn't take much longer than a couple of hours.

Are you converting to MPEG1 or MPEG2? The last time I used TMPGenc to convert to MPEG2 it did take a while, MPEG1 is quicker but lower quality.

    sounds ropey to me
tmpgenc takes 1h,30m to convert xvid to dvd for myself [2500xpm , 512ram]
try mainconcept as that usuallly takes me well under an hour to do a full movie, but id usually only use it s/vcd to dvd as the quality aint so good

    14 day free trial :
    http://downloads.mainconcept.com/fdl.php?downloads.mainconcept.com+MPEGEncoder1.4.2+mpegencoderv1.4.2.exe

I tried the tutorial at www.afterdawn.com ..and hence my current situation.

Its still another 4 hrs left,
maybe its because the tutorial said to pick the "good quality - Very slow" option..

what kind of quality do people usually end up with, when they get those kind of times? they seem quick.

    Its MPeg2 im encoding into

Ill just have to see what the quality's like,
im not sure this would be worth it for quality..

And Thanks for the replies.. im definetly going to try out other options.
