Is it recognising the drive at boot?

    Did you format the drive?

    Check my sata thread :P

Essentially go to start--->run and type in diskmgmt.msc and format then the drive should appear.

    What model is your motherboard?

In some cases you need to enable the SATA controller in the motherboard BIOS. The drives don't show up in the motherboard BIOS, they get recognised by the controller's own BIOS after POST.

I'd guess that's probably the case with you. :)

MSI board does that i had that problem long ago, I just keep trying different port and at last it worked, in the bios it has option for switching between raid or non raid on the msi board, but it shouldnt be doing that, anyway the NB burned out, i wasn't overclocking, it just went, bad luck i guess, haven't went back to msi ever since, and the DFI board i had plus the chaintech i use now both got sata and I can use whichever port i want without problem!

btw are you using the K7N2 board? that board has a serious issue with the sata controller on the board, as mine was first found, then my friend with a same board, same problem, couldnt get sata to work, bios show up sata controller but no drive found, another friend who also bought one of them board before he talked to us, oh no same problem!mine was the only one that got the board to work with 2 sata drives, but then it die! those 2 guys are still going mad with the sata!

you could try flash the bios but that didnt help any of us!

Found it. Installed the raid controller driver and when it reboot's CTRL-F to set it up as an array of one and lo and behold it was recognised... thanks for all the help.....
