In my experience if noise [particularly a dreadful ticking/clanky noise] comes from a hard drive it means its on the vurge of death.

I'd advise you backup important files straight away.

The hard drive is causing vibration? Are u sure its the hard drive? Possibly open up the pc and run it with the cover off just to be sure if you feel comfortable with that sort of thing.

What make of hard drive is it?

I dont know but you might want to make a backup of some of your stuff to cd/dvd different hd, just incase.
I had a hg that started making funny noises one and lets just say i was glad i mad a backup of all the data!
Could posibly be because the hd has to warm up a bit at the start when booting up.

EDIT: see dangerman got to it as i was typing. Just on the above post, if you do have the case open try just pushing against the hd (not on the pcb of course) it may be loose and causing vibrations whitin the case. My brothers pc was like that to whit his hd in a certain place

a large vibration on start up is usually to do with cd/dvd drive.
