why don't use you use eac with lame. not even with very expensive hardware can audiophilles discriminate between 192kbps and the original.

EAC and CDex are easily the best ones.

I haven't used anything else since getting EAC.

I use a program called AltoMP3 Maker. Does the job nicely.

Then there is something wrong with your source CD at 256 it should be perfect.

EAC is the best but the not easiest to use for a new person starting off ripping

Cd_ex i would recommend to a new person starting to rip

CDex is quite good. I've used it quite a while now, but it's a bit on the slow side, which I guess is ok, cos it minimises errors/jitters

Yeah, 256kbps should sound perfect, might be something wrong in the settings?

Audiograbber was one of the simplest. can be found here http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/download.html

You will need the lame encoder, follow the link from their website.

    Thanks!
ok i have tried a couple of these programs and it all works well except for the fact i can hardly hear the singers voice! Just the music!
I have messed around with a few options on the player and got a decent set of headphones but with no luck still cant heaR the singing.
There is also an option of which rate to use ranging from 8000hz to 32000hz which should i use?
another option on the player is "encoder" and then gives me the option of
    - IM ADPCM
    -MS ADPCM
    -PCM

What the hell do they mean?
Im beginning to think that its just a brutal mp3 player but it got decent reviews(its a Medion MP3 player).

    Anyway thanks for your help.

Is it only the mp3 player that plays the songs to low? Do they play ok on your pc?

they work ok on my computer so it has to be my player????

AAahhhh! I think i know the problem. You're using windows built in MP3 encoder. Its a great big pile of gently steaming *insert expletive here*.

Download Exact Audio Copy (or ripping app of choice, but these instructions are for EAC), and follow the instructions from my post containing the lame zips on this thread.

iTunes is ok too. Personally I use it for ripping but not for playback.
