Now it’s been a few years since I last upgraded so I’m looking at This package on komplett. Problem is I haven’t been keeping very up to date with the latest technology and I was wondering if any body had any opinions on the above. Main question is, will a geforce 3 be compatible. Will a 350 watt PSU be enough for it, and will it operate under Win Xp. Should I be looking into a better cooling solution then provided?

A geforce 3 will be compatable and it will run XP perfectly.

The PSU might be a problem. What make is it? What spec is your current pc?

Pc actually went bang, had problems from the start with it. Never worked right. I'm pretty certain either the motherboard of cpu is gone, maybe both. So I'm replacing it all. Just Looked up my spec and its actually only 300w, think it was a sparle or something like that.

I doubt the PSU will be up to the job. When selecting a new PSU stay away from cheap brands (e.g. Q-tech) and buy a high quality one (e.g. Antec, Tagan, Fotron, Globalwin etc.)

The fan that comes with the P4 will be perfect for you.

What will you be using the pc for?

Sorry linked to the wrong upgrade kit. meant this one Amd 64 that's why i was asking if it required a different version of Xp.

I always thought that the PSU might have caused problems from the start. When a couple of power heads on the motherboard went, and every hard drive I ever put in it the thing.

I wouldn't be using it for Gaming (so I'll keep the geforce) mainly want it as the workdog. Things like autocad, and photoshop and storage. Stuff that takes up to many rescources on my laptop. It won't be for word processing and the occasional email. This thing will have to handle a decent enough work load.

The 64bit processors run 32bit and 64bit with no problem. So it will run anything nothing special needed. But there is a 64bit version of WinXp coming out, but I don't know the advantages of that, if any.

To be honest i think Q-Tec PSU's are crap.

I have a Fortron 400w and its really solid. it cost €15 more than a Q-Tec 550w "Gold" PSU. I have a fairly hefty system and its all good.

I bought my system from Komplett using the upgrade pack as a base. The K8N Neo Platinum is an awesome board.

Heres a rundown of my system so you can see what im using with a 400W:

ThermalTake Tsunami Dream Case w/ 2x12cm and 1x9cm fans built in,
    AMD 3200+ 2.2 Ghz,
    MSI K8N Neo Platinum MB,
    1GB (2x512Mb) DDR3200,
    Fortron 400w PSU,
    2x160Gb Seagate Barracuda S-ATA HDD's,
    Plextor DVD+-R/RW,
Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro Ultimate Edition 256Mb,
    Samsung 17" Syncmaster LCD 710N.

    €1750 for the lot

Look on www.jes.de. You might be able to find a better deal.

If you are buying off Jes I highly reccomend the Tagan PSU, stable power and silence.
