It could be worse. I'm listening to my neighbours having sex.

I know what you mean, I'm sleeping in a converted attic and the sound seems amplified through the roof.
Sometimes on a Friday or Saturday night, there's one circling around for what must be an hour (a police helicopter that is... not neighbours having sex).
Living a few miles from Dublin airport doesn't really help either... once 6am hits - forget about it. (meant in a NewYork-Italian way, not that you can actually forget you're living near an airport). :(

But in answer to your question...
    Yes, I suppose it does.

Yep, it's a noisey ****er alright. Did they buy the cheapest loudest one they could get their bloody hands on. I've been kept up a few time by the bloody thing.... :(

I don't think it's even the fact that it's loud or flys low... I think it's more that it just hovers there for 20 mins, or goes around in circles for an hour.
I can handle things flying over, it's just when they won't shut up that it bothers me.

Back when I lived in Belfast if there weren't a few helicopters hovering it was hard to sleep.

Ah, but that Gazelle was at a few thousand feet, loitering for ever over the city centre. The Garda guys insist on a midnight patrol over the city at a few hundred feet and the loitering.

It doesn't come out on patrols though does it? Surely if it's hovering it's looking at something?

I remember when they got their first helicopter a few years ago.
For the first week that they had it, they had great fun flying over where I live and taking out their spotlight and beaming it into people's back gardens.
I went to sleep one night forgetting to close my curtains and was woken up about 3 am with huge beams of light blasting into my garden..
I thought aliens were coming to get me!

It cost about €5000 an hour to keep in the air so I doubt they eat their klunch in it
