Seeing as how they are a commercial company..

How can they use it to generate revenue without ads / subscription / upfront cost / defaulting to google

( And if it will be based on mozilla , won't it have to be open source , and if they are poaching IE developers it ain't for quality control :D)

I'm sure it'll have a built in version of the google toolbar so you easily type in a search and be taken straight to a google results page. It'll probably have stuff like telling you if you have any gmail and a button to take you straight there too. So really it'll just be drawing more eyes to their already revenue generating content.

I just cant see the commercial gain they can get from this, but it will be more then likely based on Firefox - Google are no friends to M$ and they have hosted a Moz Developer Conference before. They only reason I can see for this is to try and break open the browser market and hurt M$.....can you imagine the take up of FireFox Google if they posted it on their search page  M$ would sh1t itself.

Mozilla firefox has all of those features already.

Yeah, Google could really clear up if they had a link to their new applications on their home page.

The new generation of "search" that's developing is very interesting. The likes of A9.com giving you a search "account" which lets you organise and manage your searching tasks. Automatic searching of resources like imdb.com and library catalogues etc.

It would be interesting to see google offering a suite of integrated tools which would basically cover all aspects of internet usage (and a lot more besides). Much like the way MS does it for the office environment. Doing clever things like allowing you to mount your 1gb of gmail space as a remote filesystem, Google Instant Messaging and Browser with a remembrance agent would all be very cool..

I reckon once they have the browser they might build in some sort of local machine search into it. that'd be kinda cool.
