    This is the problem:

I have recently installed windows xp on a new hard disk, and upgraded it to sp2. The problem is for about a minute to two minutes after connecting with the zyxel 610, the computer sort of freezes. I can move the mouse, and open windows, and if an application is open i can use that, but I can't open any new applications, control panels, or shutdown or restart. I thought it might be a virus or spyware, so I ran free anti vir, adaware and spybot, and they came up with nothing. I also ran zonealarm (had been using sp2's firewall), and it detected no unusual outbound traffic. I concluded it must be some driver issue with the adsl modem, and since I plan to buy an ethernet one this week, I didn't worry about it.

I however decided to type netstat from the command line prompt during one fo the freezes and see what came up:

other then the normal msn connecting, the two lines at the bottom concern me, two http connections especially since I had no browser open. If you can't make them out (or don't want to bother loading the image, they're http connections to : 213.239.164.114 and a194-109-192-16.deploy.akamaitechnologies.com.

The first one especially concerns me as when I type it into a browser it brings up a dutch mobile payments site.

I have also dialed up with my normal modem and found the pause to be there still, so at this stage have concluded it's nothing to do with the adsl modem drivers.

I'm concerned as it appears I may have a virus/malware that antivir/adaware and spybot can't pickup
