Packard Bell Laptops - Opinions

    Hey all,

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop - preferably dont want to spend more than 1200. I know this limits me a bit - but I dont need a laptop - only for my own use really. Size/Weight is not a major issue (but I dont want a block!!)

The main reason is that I was looking at the Toshiba A30-921 - which was good spec and cheap but its sold out everywhere and now discontinued. Have looked at Dells but I'm a bit iffy with Dell especially their laptops.

Have seen Pacard Bells in Dixons, in oarticular the EasyNote f7 300(I know its a little dearer but its alot more spec than I wanted) However I cant find any recent reviews for Hewlett Packards - has anyone got any views/opinions? Or any suggestions on which laptop for around €1200 - preferably P4 2.8Ghz or more.

    Thanks :D

I'm looking at this one for about 1200 (Elara)

    Aspire 1681LCi Pentium-M 715 (1.5Ghz/400Mhz FSB/2MB L2Cache), Microsoft« Windows« XP Home, 512MB (2*256) DDR, 60GB, CD-RW+DVD Combo, ATi Mobility Radeon 9700 64MB VGA, 15.0" XGA, Modem, Wired & Wireless 802.11g LAN, 4-Cell Li-Ion, 3-in-1 Card Reader

Its got a pretty good spec, defintiely better than the ones for a sim price in dixons et al. Don't know if it matches your spec for a p4, but the Pentium-M 715 is meant to be equivalent to a p4 2.4, and thats a decent gfx card in it too.

Packard Bell are to be avoided at all cost!

I have one of their desktops, and I had loads of trouble with it. Their support is crap.

NEVER, i repeat NEVER touch anything made by packard bloody bell!!!
Their lappies *look* nice but thats about as far as it goes.

As somone who has given them more than one chance i can tell you here and now, you *will* regret it if u buy a PB.

They have a very bad industry reputation too, and its well deserved.
