CDMA in IRELAND

My mate has just come back from Austrailia. He bought a Nokia 2280 while over there and he's wondering if the phone can be used over here. From a quick search, I've found that it's a CDMA phone and it won't work over here. Does anyone know if I'm right to come to this conclusion?
