norton system works 04 help or advice needed

    ive been using norton system works 2004 for the last 10months or so, and in the last month ive been getting an error (see attached jpeg) when i try to launch the app from the desk top or start menu, funny thing is i can run anti virus and 1 button check up from the scheduled tasks folder , go figure??
    ive done everything suggested by the tech support folks at symantech and on their web site but each time ive reinstalled or tried a fix it works for a few days and goes back to not working again , i dont think this is a sp2 issue as ive had the prob before and after installing sp2 (which was done after a clean install) so my question finally is does any one know what going on woth it??
    TBH im pretty sick of the lack of help from symantech and think maybe its time to explore the alternatives and competition, any suggestion, more specificly an alt to theier on button check up/ windoctor feature
