tesco computer problems

Friend of mine bought a tesco computer & is having problems with viewing & printing images downloaded from a camera - images are jpeg & approx 900kb in size.

He has win XP & can preview the image as a thumbnail, if the image is viewed any larger eg, XP slideshow or image editing software, it distorts. & it also distorts when printing.

Any idea what the issue is here?

What resolution are the images? If they are only 800*600(for eg) and you have your screen res set to 1024*768, then of course they are going to distort.
Your friend is probably setting the image to fit to the page when they are printing it, but the image may be taken at a very low resolution/quality, therefore the image is being stretched.

the images aren't being stretched, it sounds more like a "shear" i.e. the top of the image is fine & middle part of the image is stretched to the left hand side of the screen.

The tesco machines come with built in family software. It was the first crap I uninstalled.

The software will corrupt anything that may look pornographic as far as I recall.

Could try that. If we could see an example of the picture it might help.

800 x 600 pictures wouldn't distort at 1024 x 768, it resizes the length and width by the same number

The pics are of a holiday, so there will be a lot of skin showing! Hopefully you hit the nail on the head, he'll try & disable it or uninstall that software tonight.

He may have been thinking of dithering ( not the problem here ), distortion is how you *could* describe dithering. I can't believe Tesco could be so imperious as to censor content without making it VERY clear that it is doing that and that it could affect image and printing quality
