    hi vanilla,

Welcome to the boards. Make sure you read the charters on the Boards (and this individual board) as advertising isn't allowed. This is the first time you've posted up the link so I'll leave it, but just keep it in mind :)

On a seperate note, your signature is pretty big, you might want to make it smaller as at the moment it probably isn't allowed under the boards sig rules. Check our the System> Newbies/FAQ section for more info. The admins will delete it if it's too big (which it probably is)

What worries me is that a fair few of the snakes pictured look like they are being kept with woodchip as a substrate.....

Whats wrong with woodchip may I ask?It was recommended to me by Ben in Reptile Haven for a Corn snake. If its ingestion then the pieces I got would be too small for a corn to swallow. And anyway I feed on sheets of kitchen roll laid down in the cage to stop it happening.

Falkorre I know youre into snakes,do you know anywhere I could pick up a Childrens python or a spotted python(both Australian species).
I really dont want a Ball as Id like something a bit different.
    Thanks
    Richie.

    Richie,

I keep my snakes & lizards on kitchen paper or soft rubber matting, I have read lots on the dangers of wood chip & will not use it. I know lots of folks who are now using hemp bedding - but I need to do more reasearch before I use it.

For the pythons it may be cheeper for you to go to the uk check out the classified ads on this website www.cviewmedia.com

What is wrong with the humble Royal/Ball python may I ask? I adore my boy Syd. When buying any bigger snakes try to make sure that they are CB (captive bred) CF or WC (captive farmed, wild caught) can be full of parasites & will need to be wormed by a vet & may only eat live food.

    Hope this Helps

I use wood chips on the recommendation of reptile haven but I have read some horror stories about the use of it alright.

And TBH theres nothing wrong with the humble Ball Python--its just that Im one of these people who tries to break the mould and go for something different. If all else fails I will be getting a Ball as I have a 36x33x24 inch Viv set up already for my next snake/reptile as Im also thinking of a pair of Beardies.

Have you ever bought anything on that website Bond? Will they ship here??
    Thanks
    Richie

    razer,
    its very simple really,.....
Snakes (indeed most reps) have very delicate respiratory systems, and no matter what brand sawdust contains a lot of *dust* which can really screw up said lungs,or at least be an irritant.
Not to mention the risk of impaction if swallowed, ben shud know better tbh.

I just picked up 17 corn snakes & a nile monitor that were advertised on Cview - I would say that you will need to go over & buy them yourself - I spent £150 on the 17 corns my local pet shop wants €130 each for corn hatchlings! I have seen beardies advertised for around £30 each on that site. I plan to get rosy & rainbow boas & some king & milk snakes too.
