    Hi everyone,

    I've two questions:

    (1) I'm thinking of buying this:

    http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=301143&cks=PRL

Anyone any suggestions / warnings regarding any of the components?

    (2) Also, do I need to get any kind of heatsink / CPU fan *in addition* to this? Sorry if I sound dated, it's been a while since I've done this... ;)

    Cheers!

    -Seán

BOXED version means it includes heatsink fan, so you're sorted there

i'd be more concerned about the q-tec power supply.

    there rep. ain't the best

Thanks Cr3m0, that was actually gonna be my next question (about "Boxed") if I couldn't find the answer online!

From what I've read, people seem to suggest getting a 400/450W PSU when using this motherboard and AMD chip... If their rep ain't the best, do you reckon that means it mightn't handle overclocking and such?

Because I don't plan on doing any overclocking or, more importantly, anything *more* than what the PC is intended for. Therefore, the PSU supplied (if I trust Komplett, which I do) should be alright, right?

Or am I being totally naive? :)

It will work but it might not last that long. Q-tec's seem to have a habbit of dying after about a year. It would probably be useless for overclocking as well but seeing as your not doing that you should be fine.

Looks like a great kit apart from that. I don't want to keep taking business away from komplett but you could order the same parts from jes with a better psu and a dual layer burner for the same money.

Qtech make cheap nasty kit that melts. The case in that kit is also a Qtec: Avoid.

Simply order the parts listed in that kit from komplett seperately with a different case and power supply.......

    and bobs your maiden aunt

That Q-tec is actually quite good for the price, gets 22a instead of the insanely rubbish Gold versions 14!

Yeah, I agree with all above on the Q-tec stuff. The last Q-tec case I saw (looked like the one in this kit but silver) had a really crappy way of doing the front audio as well. There were two jack plugs on the front audio wires that you had to plug into the sound outputs/inputs on the rear i/o panel instead of the type that connect to motherboard headers. Oh and there was also a pci slot cover with 2 big holes for you to poke these wires out of. In order to prevent the risk of the jack plugs getting drawn back inside the case through the holes (and possibly the metal ends shorting something out) it was necessary to tie the 2 wires in a knot. You really had to see this setup to appreciate just how mock the whole thing was.
Apart from the Qtec stuff the rest seems ok, though if you go the separate parts route as Uberpixie suggests, maybe you could get slightly better ram than the Corsair Value stuff.

the case is find if you don't mind what it looks like cos it won't melt your pc to silicon bits but i'd change the psu

i heard nothing good about the q-tec either, how are they still in the psu business??

People buy them based on what wattage they are rather than reading what power they can supply on each rail.

Try Overclockers.co.uk bundles. Or just try the upgrade packages in www.komplett.ie and add the stuff that you want (non Q-TEC PSU) might even work out at the same price
