Cant overcome 137GB

    I cant overcome the 137GB limit with a system i have. Its windows 2000 Pro SP4 so the 48-bit LBA should already be enabled and is no longer an option in registry. The motherboad is an AbitIC7 with latest BIOS flashed. The motherboad also recognises that the disk is 160GB (WD 160GB SATA disk btw). On install it wouldnt recognise more than 137GB (128 binary) and if i play with some bios setting (which im not sure about, things like LBA CHS LARGE and so on) and go into recovery console to diskpart it still says 137 available. Shouldnt windows recognise large disks with SP4 installed and the BIOS showing 160GB? Help appreciated.

    Dots.

    I suffered the same crap with my 160GB drive. You need to manually edit the registry and put in that "ENABLE_BIG_LBA" key (or whatever it is...let me know if you can't find it and I'll dig mine out).

    The support is there, you just need to turn it on yourself. :)

    Don't use the machine any further until you've done this if you have > 1 partition on that drive. You can corrupt your installation of 2K (as I did).

    Doh! When i read the microsoft bulletin on 48bit LBA i though it said to edit not create the reg value. When it wasnt there i thought SP4 had automatically fixed it. Not to mention when it is enabled you have to do it INSIDE windows disk management and not in Recovery Console at boot up. Thx anyway.

    If your still looking for the registry value or in case someone else needs it, here it is:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Atapi\Parameters
    -->Add - REG_DWORD
    -->Name - EnableBigLba
    -->Value - 1

    Took me a long time and a lot of corruptions to find this info out :mad:
    All good now though. Have this on a post-it beside me computer now
