    Here's the dillio...

My computers fudged royally and the only thing I can think of is to wipe it and start over. Only thing is I'm about as computer literate as an ape with bad computer literacy!

Anyone reccomend an easy way to wipe my PC without having to download/buy any software cos the computer's so wrecked i can't install anything or even open internet explorer or my computer. I'm havin to use a mates pc just to type this.

Anyway if anyone has any suggestions they'd be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks, Steve

Get your Windows disk, boot from CD drive, then when the option appears, reformat the whole Hard Disk.

You could also try just reinstalling Windows without reformating, that might fix the problem.

this is only the case if you have a bootable cd which i know XP has this feature not sure about 2000 but anything before that doesn't and will need to create a boot disk which i can't remember how to do since i've been using xp for years now.

Unfort. I've tried re-installing Windows and it didn't work.

I also need to do it with a laptop with 2000/NT aswell as the PC with XP.

Anyones know how to make a boot disk and how do I go about using it?

If I wipe the hard drive on my PC/Laptop can I just turn it on with the XP cd in the cd drive and just install Windows onto it?

If you have a full version of Windows XP on CD (not an upgrade version) just turn the machine on and it should boot from the cd. Format the disk when the option is given. If not you can get a bootdisk from http://www.bootdisk.com

The laptop boots diskette first then hard drive then cd rom and i cant change it.

I can't make a boot disk cos i cant get acces to the i386 folder cos im not an adminastor

My mate suggested just buyin a new hard drive for it which i reckin ill try and then just install it straight to that.

Anone with experience of that shenanigans.

Ideally, get someone who knows what they're doing to sort it out for you....

You need to change that behaviour through the BIOS. When you boot the machine, it'll usually say "Press F1/F2/Del/ESC for setup" - which key it is depends on the machine.

You shouldn't need a boot disk for XP or 2000. You should be able to boot from CD and wipe it then.

That's a little overkill unless you were thinking about that anyway. Hard drives aren't cheap.
