    Hi all,

Just about to invest in a laptop - for use as a presentaion machine - it must run video & director movies very well + the screen must have wide angle of view.

I have my eye on something like a Toshiba P10-802 (€1799 Currys)

Can anyone recommend any model that just as good but cheaper?
Or would you favour something else?

Also where do you buy laptops online (I have searched the sticky to no avail).

    Cheers

    Hi pencil;
I would recommend that you look at www.rockdirect.co.uk.
They have a wide range available; perhaps you should take a look at their Quaddra 64 range? That's one of their models that pack a 17” WXGA TFT.
Give them a good lookl thery're a great crowd to do business with ;) .

they look great but the Quaddra 64 range doesn't appear to have WiFi inbuilt.

    any other suggestions?

Well i do know that Rock Direct ships some models with 802.11g/b integrated; so be sure to check the pdf specs.

I haven't used either of these two but they might be worth a checking out:

www.dell.ie (heard some good and bad tales of these folks.. hmmm  )

www.elara.ie (good selection; might be able to find a bargain)

This looks really good, has anyone got one of these ?

I'm interested to know what the screen is like - how good is the viewable angle?

(the Toshibas have a great screen)

I don't have experience with that exact model; but i have seen one of their 17.0” WXGA + TFT Screen (1440 x 900 Res) displays on a different model. The 17.0" definetly excels for watching movies (in comparison to smaller laptop screens); and clarity is superb (never had to strain my eyes when viewing from comfortable angles). I didn't try viewing stuff at awkard or extreme angles.

If you want to get the best possible display; you might want to consider one of their more premier notebook offerings (on the expensive side). These are capable of utilizing their X-Glass technology.

i thought tosh screens were the **** too, but tbh after seeing the new sony's and the new hp 7255, it doesnt come close. Check out some of the new onyx tfts, sony seem to have licenced them to be used by other manufacturers, like hp, cos its a cracking screen, absolutely supurb.

What you want is one of these Acer Aspire 1714Smi 17" screen, P4 3.4 Ghz, top of the range, only €1884 after conversion. Has 5700 128mb Graphics, 120mb HD, 1gb Ram and sound with Subwoofer built in. One serious piece of work.

The only Irish comapny I can find that sell them is Elara (www.elara.ie) but they charge over €300 more for it.
