Hi everyone, a year ago we moved into a fab house. We have two small kids aged 5 and 4. Regularly, we are awoken at night to the sound of a child crying fairly loud - loud enough to wake you up immediately. When we check our kids they are sound asleep. This was happening twice a week and sometimes three times a week. We jokingly refered to this thing as the phantom child.

Last night we were awoken with a very loud but dull thump from the ensuite. Needless to say we hopped out of bed immediately! We checked the kids first as one of them sleeps on the other side of the wall of the ensuite, he was fine and asleep away from the wall. When the ensuite was checked the ratiator that was fixed to the wall but not connected was off the connecting pipes that where keeping it upright. The noise we heard was not from the radiator coming off the pipes, it was like someone in the walls thumping and the force of the thump pushing the radiator off the pipes.

I don't know if I explained all this properly, my head is up my **** at the moment. Between the phantom child and the thumping I don't know what to think and would appreciate your opinions.

Get a priest in. It'll make you feel better at least.

ok, first of all you could contact the lads at PRAI (www.praofi.org) they have a forum there where you can ask Q's and they can come and check and see if the noises have a paranormal source. Unfortunately they don't seem to be able to help rid places of unwanted spirits ...heh ( I might be able to help you there)..but if they do locate something extra-ordinary, there's a few things you can do.

Think first you should contact the lads though.
and in the meantime, get yourself a few white candles, place one in each room, (always nice to have a minister or priest give the house and all within a blessing too)
Phantom child crying is one of the more common paranormal situations experienced, think of it like residual energy that has been left behind.
    Will keep in touch.

You should try tape-recording it or leave a camcorder recording overnight, see if you can catch it on tape.

Hi again, another update!! While my husband was reading the bedtime stories, I thumped the wall between my sons room and the ensuite and heard the radiator jump. This leads me to think that maybe my son did do it but in saying that I gave it a good thump and surely a five year old would have woken up with a sore arm or hand as opposed to sleeping soundly with a soother in his mouth! A short time later my other son (4) woke up and couldn't get out of the bed quick enough and was found perched on top of the headboard. I'm on the way to bed now and wary. A friend reckons that the phantom child is like other kids - just looking for attention and thats why it comes and goes. I have asked around discreetly regarding the previous owners of the land before the builders moved in and have hit a blank - so will check up more next week. By the way, I have three cats, should they be sensitive to these strange things? I've heard conflicting views on animals picking up on things.

kinda glad I don't have plasterboard partitions between rooms :)

    many would agree.

Animals are supposedly sensitive to spirit activity, but emf detectors are too, if your really concerned contact praofi, they have equipment they can use to detect any anomolies in energy.

    btw..Is your sons name adam?

Hi, I heard a similar story on the radio, exorcisms etc hadn't helped at all and the family were driven out of their house. Eventually they found a woman who seems to specialize in sorting out that kind of thing and they moved back in w/ no problems. Sorry I can't remember her name but she seemed to be well known in this field.

Hi all, No my son's name is not Adam - what's the significance?
We had more fun last night. The kids were in bed asleep and we were in the kitchen. We heard one of the kids running around - not unusual. When we checked both kids they were out cold! I'm kinda getting used to this other little person now and have called it Sammy! My husband did remind me of a couple of weeks agao when i was in the shower alone in the house the walls again started thumping from the wardrobe side. When I check the wardrobe thinking it was a bloody cat stuck there was nothing! It's not freaking me out like it was last week and thanks for all the suggestions. I did go onto that suggestged website and I'll see what they come up with. Will keep you updated.

If the presence seems to be a distressed young child you could always kill a baby sitter for it. ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Adrienne

But I haven't got a babysittier!!! Well I will have one on thursday night. We booked tickets for Derek Acorah before these strange things started getting out of hand and now I'm nervy about going - what if he picks on me - I'll **** myself!!!! Whats the significance about the name adam - no the babysitter isn't called adam - in fact I don't know any adams!

Maybe he means Brian Adams - play that and it will drive the ghost out.... ;)
Na - really my friends had a nuissance ghost in their house when they moved in. This house was brand new!
They would constantly hear someone pounding up and down the stairs. Eventually the guys girlfriend would not stay in the house alone
Anywho.....they had a chat with the local priest and he came around and blessed the place. As far as i know that stopped it.....

Don't do priests, anyway would prefer to find out who and what it is if it is anything before I think about getting one of that lot in. I don't want to be getting priests in from the locality as I am a newcommer and they will think I'm mad, I don't want anyone from area finding out either-I don't like fuss.

Well you are kinda fecked then if you arent willing to try the one thing thats been recomended to you. Im not a religious guy at all, actually im pretty much anti religion, but if a bloke in a black suit could wave his hands and be rid of some poxy ghost wrecking my head id be first on the the phone to him

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,934 ✭✭✭egan007

that's true - i'm not exactly the first at mass every week - but if i had a burst pipe i'd call a plumber!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Adrienne

Sorry guys, didn't mean to shoot down the priest solution just yet. I need to check the attic for birds/mice etc and bleed the rads - that will eliminate some theories, also check wall cavities for rats (yuk - any takers!) before I go down the priest road. It's not wreaking my head and there is no cold/hot spots in the house, the cats havn't moved out yet either so I'm still trying to find the logical explanation. Has anyone got the priest into sort their house, if so do you have to get the local priest or can you contact one out of the parish to do it without stepping on toes?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,180 ✭✭✭keu

    :)

yea..I had a priest come to my place, when I moved in the place still felt like it belonged to the old guy who died here.
but..I knew the priest, just asked him to give house a "moving in" type blessing.

Looking forward to hearing about your experience with Derek Acorah though
    :D

edit: I know someone called adrienne who has a son called Adam, I was curious to see if there were any synchronicities.

was thinking the same thing, as far as I know he performed last night, wonder will we get an update.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Adrienne

Derek Acorah was excellent!! There was around 1000 people there, not all believers needless to say but they all said afterwards that the show was great. He only got to about 8 or 9 people ( who didin't appear to be plants) and the detail was amazing. He also did a question and answer session at the end which was food for thought. What I got from it was that what is going on in my house may not be related to the house or land but may be related to us. Maybe is a family member just visiting?? As I had said before there is nothing threatening or any bad feeling in the house so that just might answer that. In saying that nothing has happened since then! :D

I know its an old post but I'm bored in work.

Do you by any chance live in the country?

Your case sounds almost exactly like one that occured in my area about 15 years ago. This is in Grangemore, Donaghmede. A couple heard noises of a child etc. ending with a physical presence in their bed with them. Traumatised, they called in a Priest. An Exorcism was performed not too long after his visit. This priest confided in me to tell me that this was his most frightening experience ever. He claimed to see a child wrapped in thorns, crying and surrounded by what he believed to be a beast of some kind. He took time off for a year after it.

He described it a lot better and in more graphic detail. I couldn't believe that this thing was real. It's assumed that the place for all this is in the movies. I believed him.

My advise is to get advice from a ranking priest who has experience with this kind of story. Ask for your house to be Blessed. Post back with any more happenings. (PM if necessary)

What kind of house do you live in? What houses are near it? Do you have a cat?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Adrienne

Hi, have been up to my eyes in work - sorry!! Well, things are still going bump and thump around the house. We haven't heard the crying in good while now. The most recent thumping was on Wed/Thurs night last?? It was just after a dream I had or should I say nightmare. I felt I was being led along by something invisable to an area and show where the remains of this thing is. It was awful, all hunched up in a sitting/foetal position with an old brown sackcloth beside it. After telling DH all this a few minutes later the thumping started. I am so used to it I just rolled over, DH isn't so used to it and he is starting to take it quite seriously now although he will not have anyone in the house regarding it.

We live in Meath, detatched 7yr old house alongside 40/50 houses that look the same.

I wonder if the area around that particular estate, or indeed that particular house has any history behind it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 389 ✭✭Ba_barbaraAnne

Your experiences with your 'visitor' are very interesting. I had a 'ghost' in the house a few years ago. Like you, I thought one of the kids was calling 'Mammy!' but when I checked they were flat out. This went on a couple of nights and I decided to answer whoever it was. I was petrified so asked that they not appear to me, but I would listen to them. It turned out that it was a girl who had committed suicide in the area and wanted to get a message out to the world. I wrote two poems and had them published in the local paper - she bugged me until I got this done - and after this was done I visited her grave and said good-bye to her. She never came back to visit again.

hope you get to the bottom of your 'visitor's' problem and help them sort it satisfactorily. Good luck!

Am new to this forum but read thread with interest. Have some psychic ability, tho am not a professional or anything! Dont think there is anything to worry about in the house. I think it probably has a physical cause- check out your plumbing.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17 Adrienne

Plumbing checked, attic checked, wall cavaties checked and all fine.

  • Subscribers Posts: 19,425 ✭✭✭✭Oryx

Well it always pays to go for the obvious first. Plus you dont want to get too freaked out about this. I guess I dont feel anything bad - no exorcist movies here... If it has a psychic origin this could be one of two things. Either there is a lot of heavy emotion going on in the house, from those living there, or a spirit is trying to be noticed. But I cant get away from the idea that you will find a physical cause. I know it is easy for me to say but dont dwell on it, whatever it is, it cant do you any harm.

Adrienne, have you contacted a medium or a reiki master or something like that? Because they are very sensitive they could be of assistance too. Also, they don´t look like priests and could come into your home anytime without looking suspicious to the neighbours.

Guess, it´ll help if u could find out about the house and the street and history of the place. Maybe there are clues in it.

Wish you all the best. I wouldnt stay there with my kids any minute. If they have physical power and can do something to a not properly connected thing, they might have the power to hurt the kids. Wouldn´t risk it.
