    Hi,

Ok I'm on a weight/muscle gain workout plan.. or will be very soon. I've been told its vitally important to get carbs after a hard workout. The guy has recommended 'Twinlab Ultra Fuel' as an ideal carb drink after a workout but he's based in the USA so I might have to import that drink which is not ideal.

Would it be ok to take Lucozade after the workout, as its basically (I think) a carb/glucose drink? It would be a lot handier as its stocked in every spar/newsagents...

He is a douchebag. You need carbs and you also require protein so what you seek is a protein/glucose mix so my suggestion would be buy both yourself and mix them up and bring with. Cheaper and better.

Drink carbs before and during as well imo for maximum gains.

Found a study on the net which showed ingesting a high glucose and caseinate drink immediately after training to be as beneficial as creatine supplementation in strength and muscle size increases, but not in total mas increase (possibly the extra total mass increase was due to fluid retention however I would guess).

Probably cheaper and less hassle just to make one yourself. 60g of glucose with 15g of protein powder plus a little squash for flavour in 330ml of water is what i've started to use.

edit: this is three times as concentrated as it should be, and may cause dehydration.

    15g protein??? I favour 100grams plus 60g maltodextrin.

    100g protein or glucose?

    Why?

This is a study that found consuming a drink consisting of 75g glucose, and 10g caseinate immediately after training had a similar effect to supplementing with creatine:

This has references to a study where honey was used in the carbohydrate drink, and found to be better than maltodextrin:

An 8% solution is optimal for hydration (which is much more dilute than the formula I already suggested here).
