    Arsenal 1 - 0 PSV

Watched it, had to force myself for much of it. Gunners were pretty poor with a strange uncertain approach which by the end nearly allowed PSV to nick a point.

Poor second half performance by the Gunners but the job was done, 3 points against supposedly the most difficult team in the group. It certainly beats the 0-3 start from last season.

I thought Gilberto was the best player on the pitch there by a good distance.

watched the match. didnt think much of arsenal to be honest, they were lucky not to come out with a draw with some of their play. when they were on the break they didnt really go forward hard, a bit hesident.

Nervy start from the Gooners but hey they won which as Kaids says is a far better start than last season. Plus they didn't conceed a goal :)

Well not the best of performances from arsenal but 3 points is what mattered.

PSV didnt really give arsenal the space to play their game. But didnt really threaten to score

Cygan is a liablity, the sooner Sol is back the better.

One - Nil to the Arsenal. ;)

Winning as a difficult habit to break. If they could get into a habit of scraping results during bad European games you'd back them to go far.

It was an unusual match for Arsenal. If anything it shows just how the CL gives Wenger the jitters and how that transmits to the players.

Their tactical line-up was also interesting. Henry and Bergkamp up front and at one stage Bergkamp as the furthest forward, rather than him playing in the hole. Reyes played back very deep on the left midfield side as did Pires on the right. They did a lot of defending - a very cautious approach. Also defending was a risky approach given the frailty of Cygan in the back. PSV had a few chances to level it. Arsenal should have used attack as the best way to deal with the PSV team.

In a way I was surprised at just how stressed Wenger was when looking on from the sideline and how subdued he was in the press interviews afterwards. The CL is the only remaining competition that Arsenal do not have any confidence with, and this was a poor start.

In terms of Chelsea, I saw some of the highlights. The goals were very fortunate, goalie mistake, defensive error, goalie mistake, but a great confidence booster. Chelsea were very strong in the back and Cech was very solid.

Good result for Arsenal but the performance still leaves a lot of question marks about how they will perform in Europe. Undefeated in England for over 40 games now but Europe is a different kettle of fish altogether and has always been the main problem area for the Gunners. They'll face a lot tougher challenges than PSV and it'll be interesting to see if they'll meet them

A truely awful match to watch, but at least it was 3 points in the bag. As Kaids said, its a far better start than last season. In fact, we now have more points than we did after 3 games last season.

Cygan had another woeful performance at the back. You'd think after a run of games in the team his defending might improve, but he keeps showing the same lapses in concentration again and again. Particularly last night, he just walked away and left Sibon unmarked at the back post as a cross came in, and a couple of other times where he let the ball drop over his head and run into the penalty area. The quicker we get Sol Campbell back, the better, And with a bit of luck, Justin Hoyte will have come on a bit in the reserves in the meantime, and next time we have an injury at the back, we wont have to resort to Cygan.
