Are these temps ok?

    Hi,

I've completed my first build and the machine has been running for a week.
I've an IC7-MAX3 mb and my cpu is p4 3.2 northwood with a zalman 7000 at slowest speed.

According to mbm5 my temps are:
    Case: ~35c
    CPU: 47c -> 62c
    PWM: ~35c

The case and pwm temps don't change much, maybe 2 or 3 degress each way. I haven't put the CPU under much pressure yet, still setting up software and stuff. But are these temps ok? CPU sounds a little high but I heard this board displays higher than normal temps.

    Thanks.

Turn your fan up full, they aren't known for their ultra cooling. It's still pretty quiet at full rpm.

Temps are probably still a bit too high if they aren't full load temps.

Sounds about right, I'd be happy with that (as long as they don't shoot up when you put the PC under some pressure!). Try posting in tweaking/modding forum for more opinion!

Do you have any case fans? With the Zalman case air flow makes a big difference (because of the feckin size).

The temps look a little high for the CPU (especially a Northwood), the Zalman is a good cooler and should be performing better than that. How much thermal compound did you put on? Use the Zalman stuff or AS5?

I have 2 120mm fans, 1 front and 1 exaust running at 1100rpm. I used AS5 when putting on the zalman. I followed the instructions from their site, put on a small amount in the middle and placed the zalman on it and twisted it a few times to spread out the compound and not trap any air.

This was my second time placing it, first time I placed on the compound and spread it around and placed the zalman on top. Was getting 47c as the temp reading. Thought this was high so I read the AS5 instructions, cleaned the chip and zalman and did as above. Same temperatures again.

Your temps are fine. The max-3 and abits in general over-read temps by 8-12c. This was admitted by abit themselves.

So taking the lowest value to be safe your running 39-54c which is more of a normal northwood temp.

I would agree that the board is reading a higher temp than it really is, i've recently changed my borad and before i changed it the psu was reading around 35c, after i changed the board its reading at 127c, tell me if thats right!!!! lol !!!!

    Thanks!
That's what I was thinking, I read a few things about the board reporting high temps... good to know. I was thinking of taking off the heatsink again and replacing it!!
