I'm just after installing firefox(see what all the fuss is about). So far....looks good etc....but it keeps logging me out of boards every few mins. Real annoying...any ideas?
    Running Windows Pro Ed sp2

    Works fine for me.

Maybe has something to do with your security settings, maybe deleting temp net files, cookies etc.?

do you login on the main page, or one of the forums? I find that if I login on the main page, I have to do it again the next day - while, if I login on one of the forums, and tick the "remember me/keep me logged in" box it stays logged in until I delete cookies/temp Internet.

It is probably a cookie problem.

To check what status your 'delicious treats' are in, go to Edit -> Preferences -> Privacy -> Cookies. You'll have to click enable cookies. You tell it to explicitly allow boards.ie to set cookies by Clicking 'Exceptions...' and typing in "www.boards.ie" into the 'Address of website' and clicking 'Allow'. Try to log in and click that 'Remeber me' thing RobertFoster said.

You can check if it has worked by goign to the same menu and clicking on 'Stored Cookies'. I have 7 cookies from boards. Called bblastvisit, bbpassword, vbcodemode, bbuserid, bbsessionhash, bbthread_lastview.

    Try that.

    Chauffe, Marcel, chauffe!

Looks like a cookie issue alright

What version of Firefox is that?

In the current version (0.9.3) and the last few versions it is in Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Cookies

Your advice is sound though :)

The Linux version of Firefox uses the Edit->Preferences convention, the windows version uses Tools->Options. Seems rediculous I know. Strange there should be a problem with the default cookie settings, that's never been a problem when I've used Firefox. What does happen though is when I use the login box on the main page to login that it logs me out everytime I quit. If I want to stay logged in permanently I follow delly's advice and go to an actual forum page, http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin for example, then use the login box in the top right there and make sure "Remember Me?" is checked.

That's strange about the preferences thing moving around. Especially because on Firefox 0.8 on Linux it was Tools -> Options. Only on 0.9 is it Edit -> Preferences.

So fletch, did that sort it out for you?

What RobertFoster said is 100% correct you need to log in from a forum and not the front page and it will work just fine

The developers ( OK developer Ben is pretty much a one man show ) want to use the "Unix Standards of UI". In other words things will be different ( menu layout, shortcuts, browser behaviour etc.. ) in Linux compared with Win. To me ( and a lot of other ppl at mozillazine ) this is total rubbish but.....I'm not writing any code so I've just got to shut up and put up :)

It's the best browser on the internet bar none, apart from that very little reason for the fuss :D Get AdBlock it's the best extension imaginable Tools --> Extensions ( little window opens ) click Get More Extensions on the web site that pops up you should then have AdBlock listed, grab it. You can filter content based on regexp i.e. block all images with the name ads in them is done by adding */ads/* in the list of blocks or *ads[0-9]* etc... Very handy you can clean up all the ads on the net quickly enough

By the way if anyone here uses the Optimized Third Party/Unofficial Builds and has AdBlock breakage between one nightly and another then the attached userContent.css ( renamed because of boards lame filter ) should make AdBlock redundant ( I've stopped using it ). Place it inside C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\RANDOM\chrome or ~./Mozilla/blah-blah ( a linux user will know how to find his ass without me drawing a map ;) ) If on opening this file you do not understand it....then keep using AdBlock. Otherwise it's pretty handy when AdBlock goes b0rk  The website listed inside it has other stuff like this.

For Firefox noobs about:config in the URL bar will give you access to lots of settings to change. Type "http.max" in the filter bar and change the number of connections to 100 or so.

It shouldnt be any sort of cookie problem, particularly if your talking about a fresh install. As explained above, logging in on the from page [boads.ie] only appears to temporarly log you in, try logging in using the login box on the top right (ish) of the screen on [http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/index.php ], and make sure you have the 2remember me" box clicked.
