Staying in Berlin

Can anyone recommend a decent hotel in Berlin? I'm aiming at most at around €50 per night (I'm staying for 6 nights). I don't know Berlin at all, I'm looking for a hotel that's got easy access to the Palast der Republik as I'm attending and participating in a musical performance there.

Don't know any hotels sorry, but would you consider trying to get a single or double room in a hostel? This one located in Mitte is good and close to the where you want.

Haven't a clue where the Palast is but from the picture it looks like it's near enough to Alexander Platz (basicly where that big radio tower yoke is in the background). It should be pretty easy to get there from anywhere in Berlin using public transport.

I've no accom recomendations I'm afraid - staid in a stairwell that last time I stayed overnight there :D

Hostels are nothing to as they're over here in Ireland in Berlin, afaik they they have their own showers and toilets etc.

Nah, German hostels are pretty similar to Irish ones in terms of resources and privacy.

Yeah, and Mitte´s is cool! I´m staying there now!

Look for (the) Generator Hostel, its a great hostel, right beside the Landsburger Allee U-Bahn station, very cheap, bed wise and dinner/drink wise happy hour from 19:00 to 23:00. The city ring train comes by every quarter of an hour as far as i remember. €45 for a single dorm, €15 for bed in a dorm with own locker, although you have to bring your own lock. not sure on the rest! hope it helps.

Heh, too late but I might put some of my photos from there up on my member space.

    It's an amazingly beautiful city!

Whoops, I'd forgotten I had put this up!

As regards hostels, how safe are they? I mean the only encounters I've really had with hostels is with unsavoury characters accosting me for change for a hostel in Dublin.

They are fine and safe - I've never had a problem with them. You may want to get a private room as opposed to be put in a dorm with lots of other people for more security. Other then that most people there would be backpacker types or people just like yourself.

Thanks for all the links and the advice everybody. Those hotels look a bit expensive alright. Has anyone had any experience with Circus Hostels?
