ok i've decided to buy a 6800Gt but i can't really decide which manufacturer to go for. I've been hearing good things bout XFX cards and this pack with Doom 3 is one i've been looking at a lot. I'm looking to spend about €400 ex vat.

    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/GeForce_6800_GT.html

Any Advice on a manufacturer and where to order it from?

A mate of mine is looking to buy a card too and i was having a look at that very same site.

The Galaxy Glacier looks to be the best bet.
I believe it comes in at just over €400 depending on the exchange rate on the day, i suppose.

Have you any idea what the delivery charge to ireland is from them?

I would advise against buying from Overclockers.co.uk in any case, worst company EVER. I ordered from www.over-clock.co.uk , great service, very speedy shipment and delivery. Alternatively http://www.overclock.co.uk seem pretty good aswell.

There isn't a lot of difference between the different cards out there so you can't really go wrong (unless you hear a lot of bad rep about a particular card).

    Cheers, Koneko.
I'd gotten them confused with overclock.co.uk
Hopefully they have everything my mate needs. :)

I've ordered a load of stuff from www.overclockers.co.uk over the last 3-4 years and never had a problem, ever.

All the cards are pretty much the same. But I've heard a lot of bad rep about the glaciers arriving DOA.

I've also never had a problem with overclockers. They charge about £12ST for delivery if memory serves. I almost always buy my stuff from them. In almost every case they have the best price. Dabs can sometimes be cheaper but rarely.

Got sick of waiting on the ultra, ordered the gainward 2400/Ultra Golden shambles. Got it 3 days later, I've ordered a fair bit of stuff with ocuk and never had a problem personally. This one is 289 on the site and it's sitting happily here at 400/1100 and will go up to 440/1.18 with the stock cooling.
I am very pleased with it. There have been a fair few Galaxy Glacier DOA

Same here, Overclockers have always been a pleasure to deal with due to prompt service and good prices.

Running a Galaxy Glacier here and havent had any problems with is at all. Fan is an artic cooling rev 4 and is totaly silent. The Galaxy can be flashed to an ultra in 4 easy steps that take 10 min max to do. Damm good card.

I ordered from them in the past and they were alright, but this recent "adventure" has put me off them forever. Their attitude was the worst I've come across in a while, and there was absolutely no service to speak of.

I have the Galaxy card aswell, flashed with Ultra bios, running at Ultra speeds at the moment.

What clock rates are you running it at?

Just 400/1100 for now. 425/1100 doesn't work, somewhere in between might but I doubt it'll go much over 410 :(

Same here to a T. The optimal overclock picks up 425/1100 but only Aquamark will run stable at that level for me. 420 seems good for 3dmark 03 + 04. 3dmark 01 wont run at anything beyond 402/1100 tho which is weird!

Still an over clock even if only a little above a stock Ultra for 400 notes is damm ok in my book and 70fps in Doom3 with everything bar AA and ZS is

how hot/cool are those galaxy cards running at?
What's the point in flashing your bios besides getting a bit more voltage for overclocking purposes? I don't think I'll bother flashing this one, give me a reason I should want to :D

Well your getting Ultra performance for GT price for a start :) As a GT I couldnt go past 399/1100 but as an Ultra I can get to 402/1100 100% stable and 420/1100 with only 3dmark 01 fooking up. Been checking out it out with other overclocking pro's and they are stumped as well due to 3dmark 03 being much harder on a pc than 3dmark 01.

thanks for the help guys. I think i am gonna go for the XFX Card - its practically the same price even a bit less than the Galaxy GT Cards and i've heard better things bout the XFX as opposed to the Galaxy's arriving DOA. Plus free Doom 3 with the XFX Card :D

interesting, might just see if that gets mine to 450/1200 which is what I'd like it to run at! I've managed to get 3dmk03 to run it at that speed but it eventually locks up so I reckon it's just the heat stopping me. Too happy and scared it might go fubar if I tinker with it :)

enjoy speedway, have yet to grab a copy myself!

Anything bother you about it or otherwise? Is it loud? Though I don't really think of the loudness issue unless I've music off, which is seldom.

That's the card I've ni mind. I like the fact that the warranty covers their overclocking too. Or "enhanced" I think they call it.

actually does anybody know if ebuyer.com ships to Ireland. I can't find anything on their site anywhere specifying whether or not they do

No, it's a great card and you pay that bit extra for the guaranteed overclock but the lack of games is still dissapointing. You might get lucky and get yourself an oem leadtek gt that will hit 440/1.25 if you're extremely lucky but since I had already ordered an ultra, I thought I'd save myself a few quid and get it's performance at stock speeds.
The noise did bother me at first but since I've set 2d fan speed to 50% and 3d fan speed at 80% it's much more acceptable and I can go as low as 50% for 3d also but there's not much point when everything's blasting anyway :) At full blast it's not the dustbuster the FX was but it's not far off either

I also like the warranty being in place for overclocking but the other big feature that sets it apart from a few others is that it has dual DVI just like the Ultra's and one or two others -- I believe the XFX GT also has dual DVI

    Excellent. Cheers. :)

They're packaging it with Doom 3 now. Wouldn't mind getting my hands on that version!
