    Lew

Ages ago I did www.odonnellengineering.net, with a dhtml menu. You can imagine my stunned brain when I am rang today with news that "the menu doesnt work". As far as I was concerned everything was hunkey dorey, as it works fine as far as I'm concerned.

The person that "looks after internet things" for the client *never* checked the website since it was done. This must be well over a year ago now! This person is using IE5 (so she tells me), with resolution set to 256 colors . Can you kind people take a peek and see if it works for you? Ive tested it on Mozilla 1.7.x and IE6 SP1.

Let me know what browser version your using, and thanks...

    IE 6.0.2800
    on Win2k

She probably has something dumb like Javascript disabled...

tell her try with less colours ;)

Best thing to do is explain her how to take a screen shot and mail it to you.
You might get a better impression of whats going wrong.

    NS 7.1
    IE 6.0
    FF 0.93
    IE 5.5

    Doesn't work on:
    NS 4.7

menu works for me on MSIE 6.028 & Firefox 0.92 on win2k and >256 colors.
Sorry for changing the theme slightly but it looks weird - whats with the unused white boxes (7 out of 14) and why are there two between troughs & about?
Their visitor counter has possibly doubled in numbers since this thread began!

Even so, the site says itself, you cannot rely on statistics.

Right lads thanks alot for the feedback. I'll be going down there tomorrow to see what the feck is going on. Eitherway I'll update her browser and format the harddrive, just for good measure ;)

Zaltais, can I get a screenshot of the display on IE5.01 ? Thats prolly her problem...

On this topic, how should I go from here? Do I rework the site to suit old versions ? Given that the target market are farmers and mainly non-internet savvy people. What a pain....

Meh... never hurts to have a perspective of just how bad a site will look in an older browser... I'm of the mindset that a site should at least be usable, regardless of whether the user is using a Firefox nightly build or Lynx...

PM'd you a link, but it's here in case anyone else is interested....

Ta Zaltais - thats pretty much what she was complaining about. Well I'll be bollixed if I'm reworking the site if they dont have IE updated, they should be concerned about security at least as a reason to update...SHEESH.
