What was that boy racer program on RTE last night?

Did anyone see that programme about boy racers on RTE before the 9 O'clock news (this) Wednesday night (8th)?

I saw the last 10 minutes of it, and I have to say, there are some pretty stupid kids out there with their old crappy cars done up like hairdryers, pulling stunts and playing loud music in the middle of the night in some car park somewhere? What is the point? Most of the kids look like they have left shool, work their bo**ox off, live at home with their mommmies, probably get daddy to name them on some 3rd party insurance policy cuz they're too young to get their own insurance after spending 3 grand on modifying the car, installing an outrageous sound system, and think now I can have sex for the first time with the first girl who will see them...

Coppers said they won't arrest them for some reason, despite breaking several road traffic and environmental laws. Boy racers are the epitome of bad, dangerous and sometimes violent driving behaviours in Ireland. The cops should pay more attention to these drivers. For 1 thing, there is a sleeper law regarding noise pollution from cars, which all heavy modified and fitted cars break. I can't stand it if I am somewhere at night, asleep, to be rudely awaken by the noise of a 4-wheeled hairdryer zooming past on the town or estate streets. Its crazy the way attitudes have gone in Irish motoring. I wouldn't dream of making so much noise in a built-up area if I can help it. I know what its like to work long hours, and odd shifts, and value every minute of deep sleep you rarely get...

And I ain't jealous. I am 25 and drive a '03 Xsara Coupé sports, un modified. worked hard for it. Live away from home since I went to college, balance the books to pay the loan for the insurance, and would probably kick the ass of most boy racer cars out there cuz they don't know sh1t about their own cars, at long as they look good, go fast, be very loud, drive recklessly, and perhaps kill someone...

...just give me 20 minutes in a rooom with the lot of 'em, see how hard they are then...

    Just my 2 cents worth!

    ;)

    Conan.

    What a great first post,

It's not like a rant about boy racers hasn't been done before or anything ;)

For a 25 year old you think an awful lot like a 17 year old...

I know, I know... it fades in and out of discussion all the time! Just wanted to kinda get it off my chest! Still, it might stir feelings in some who see it and not the others before. Give their own feedback. Racers and Joe Soaps alike.

I saw the programme, the police (Garda) have an even handed approach. I think they are correct in their approach.

I hear what you are saying about kit cars but this idea of kick-arse does not really help.

That's what i was thinking, who gives a sh!t about what other people drive.

I recently had a collegue of mine slag my 26 year old Kawasaki because he thought he shiney new Dragstar was the DB's.

People who stoop to the level of slagging other people's cars are no better than them.

People drive what the want because they like the car or bike.

Conan, just because some guy has an ironing board spoiler on his micra doesn't mean your Xsara Coupé is going to go any slower or affect its proformance, so what do you care.

    Thats my rant.

I think it makes more sense.

What's this about gardaí being "light" on them? All drivers who blantantly disregard safe driving practices should receive a ban from driving full stop. Most of these boy racers are probably driving illegally anyway, unaccompanied on their first provisional licence. Also if the government is serious about making life easier for young drivers who want to get insured then they should be strict on boy racers who drive up insurance premiums at the lower end of the age scale. (Though I don't blame them totally, younger drivers are inexperienced as well).

I agree with mrhappy, although I know where you're coming from Conan.

I find boyracers to be unsympathetic towards the people around them. As long as (they think) they look good in their noisey false exhaust car, with the boombox going mad (all you usually here is dummm-dummm-dummm-dummm...), the skillful driver strut-in-pose with locked elbow steering the car, I don't think they care much.

And I totally agree about the reckless endangerment to other road users. Blatant sometimes. taking chances and bends at bad speeds, just because they theink they're great drivers.

Still, will they change? Doubt this string will make them.

Sorry Conan, you might be talking upon deaf ears mate!

I don't care what they do to their cars but i do care about how they drive like complete retards. They're the type of people that have the insurance at such stupid rates in ireland.

You're right. IF they are on a 1st provisional license, why is the law not enforced? Why should those that do drive higher litre or hi-power cars allowed such when they are inexperienced?

Verdammt: I know what you're saying (and to doodle too), but I was just imagining a post popping up such as oh you're just jealous you don't have a nice car. You guys are right, I shouldn't give a toss about other cars, and for the most part, I don't. Call it a pre-emptive strike to the first boy racer who was gonna say just because you don't have a (cool) car...

Anybody living in Cork will have seen the band of muppets that hang around the Esso on the Western road at night. I kind of feel sorry for the little retards - after they've paid the credit union loan on their sh1tboxes every week they can't afford to go anywhere. They just sit there taking the piss out of passers-by on their way home from a night out. By hey, whatever floats their boat...
