    Hi Folks,

We've just started a new Aikdio club in Fairview. If your interested in starting come along on Tuesday's from 8pm to St.Joseph's Primary School. It's right beside the pedestrian bridge to Fairview Park.

We've only jyust started so the level is perfect for anyone who hasn't tried before and was thinking of giving it a go. I've lived and trained in France myself and been at Aikido for about 9 years now.

    G :D

If your looking for more information we have a website www.dublinaikido.com, it has a beginners section and gives you the low down on what you can expect in a typical Aikido class.

;) Thanks for all the good luck wishes! Does anyone have good tips for getting a martial art club noticed. I've thought about flyers but I could get fined if the council sees them lying about the streets. Getting people out of the pub and onto the mats isn't too easily done here.

The club is beside the Dart, do they mind if you hand out flyers there?

Posters in local shops, getting your club mentioned in the local paper, these things might help.

Martial Arts clubs grow mainly out of word of mouth, and friends of friends coming down. It's a bit of a struggle to build up the numbers in the early days, so don't be disheartened.

You could always troll other threads on this forum and subtley suggest people come down and check the club out, even if the thread has nothing to do with Aikido....... :D

    (k i d d i n g)

    But seriously...

Put up wome posters at Marino college, Fairview... they got 100's of folks passing through there doing night courses and what-not...

I must get down to Marino College, I put up posters in all the local shops who would let me.(one shop even charged €2 for putting a notice on the door! tight or what)

And whomever listed me on the Budo site thanks a million, much appreciated.

Well I'll keep at it, I know having a dojo is a labour of love! I've trained here long enough to see the drop off rate is staggering!

Great to see an Aikido club spring to life!congrats and best wishes.

I am about to open a self defence group in my own area (Co Meath)

Intrest comes from all sides so get out and get noticed !!!! ask in St Joey 's if you can run a display during break time ,or talk to classes .Bullying in school is now a mager problem and as such any prinipal should jump at the chance to prevent it !On the other hand people in general dont know a lot about AIKI????? so show the way approach the local business comunity Fairview has a lot of nasties on the prowl and a lotof women working in the area.
above all dont sell your self short .
    best wishes

    Thanks for that PJ!

I got out today and went around with posters again. I was amazed to find most of the shops had taken down my original adds. I also got into Marino College so we'll see. So far I got six very interested guys but all from other areas but no one loacl yet!

Anyway six is a great start and I can't complain... ;)

All things mighty and strong start out slow and weak, such is the way of nature. Six good student is a cracking start !thinh of the quality training they are getting. As for the drop off rate ?only the strong of heart can make the complete journey. Any way good students are good advertisements when rubbernecks come to look!
