    What exactly is boredom?
I was sat here earlier, bored ( or so i thought ), and i was just thinking about it.
I had plenty of things i could have been doing, but i just lacked the motivation to actually do them. So is boredom basically just the lack of motivation to get up and do something or is there something else to explain it. I'm not talking about being locked in an empty room. I'm talking about sitting at home surrounded by interesting stuff and yet, not wanting to do any of it.

More to do with tiredness with me, I mean if I get a decent nights sleep, then get up, have a shower, you feel refreshed for the day and I usually end up getting a good bit of work done, and probably have a workout or give my mates a ring in the evening.
Either way so much more gets done then days when I don't have a decent sleep or a shower and I usually just post crap like this to the boards or watch tv i.e. boredom.

    How I beat boredom...

For the past couple of years I have always found myself coming up with little projects (mostly computer/programming related). Sometimes I sit and brainstorm new ideas, sometimes ideas come faster than others. If nothing springs to mind, I have a shower, or go for a walk (this takes my mind off things). Actually I find when I walk on my own I can think better. It is often while walking I have come up with my best ideas, and rush home to either start on them or simply write it down.

But @ the moment I am feeling a little drained, from computer related stuff. My daily regime is as follows:

    Get up in the afternoon
Read my ToDo list from last nights net session
    Do some programming/reading until 6PM (peak/off-peak transition)
Check my mail, check these boards
    Watch some TV
    Play some games
    Do some web design
    Do some mindless surfing
Go to bed around 8AM (off-peak/peak transition).

Often I don't get out of the house for days because of this. I actaully enjoy it, but need a change of scenery (hence boredom, even though I have enough to do). I go clubbing @ the weekend with my mates, coz it's the only time everyone has time away from work.

So that brings me to my final thought:
The need for something new or a change of scenery often creates a feeling of boredom. It doesn't have to be, that there is nothing to do, it is more like your day-to-day life has to change, and be more eventful, to eliminate boredom from setting in.

I can remember being bored as a kid, but I can't remember any other time since then. There is just too much going on in my life and the world to be bored.

Work isn't boring. Just learn to work smarter not harder. tongue.gif

There's a difference between being bored and doing work you don't like.

I seem to prolonge the length of procrastination between tasks, simply for the fact I have fun prolonging the inevitable. I'd think this time between task's that I am bored, but if I'm having fun, then I'm obviously not bored. Therefore I enjoy all my life, as it provides things for me to think about, to make sure I'm never bored.

It's just a tail, but I'm sort of attached to it.

I used to get bored when I was younger, not as bad now though, I normally find stuff to do.

I can always find something to do if I want to, no matter where I am, but sometimes, I just can't be bothered, even if I'm surrounded by things to do, usually coincides with tiredness smile.gif
