Home Wifi Network Question

Hey guys,

I'm in the process of setting up a home wifi network to share my DSL connection and the files on my pcs.

I have a Zyxel ethernet/usb modem (from the IOL broadband package). I'm going to hook that up to a Netgear wireless router http://www.netgear.com/products/prod_details.php?prodID=214&view=hm
and then I've purchased a Netgear Cardbus wireless card for my laptop

Now the question, is how do I connect my wireless router to my home PC. I would assume by ethernet connection as the router will be based beside it. The problem is I don't have a network card in my home PC. I'm not sure of exactly what I need. Is it a NIC adapter. I'd like to stay with Netgear for continuity sake? Is this what I need?

Or can you recommend another fast network card (PCI based)?

Nope that would be the wrong card. That's for 1000 Mbps optical fiber connections i.e. a bit of an overkill.

It really doesn't have to be a Netgear NIC in your system, I suggest this Intel one http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=107383&cks=PRL
There's cheaper ones there too but they tend to be of lesser quality meaning a they're a bit slower.

But you're looking for a 100 Mpbs Ethernet NIC anyway. I can't find a Netgear one at the moment

I have the same IOL modem and want to set up a wireless network. Did you have any problems connecting the router to the modem? Any problems with your laptop detecting the wireless network?
