Genbukan is a form of Ninjitsu founded by breakaways from the main group called Bujinkan . Genbukan will not do anything for your fitness you need to work on that seperately . For self defence you will not find anything better than ninjitsu . Its the last of the combat arts and has no competition , only true combat skills .

    Oldzed,
Sorry, not sure what you mean about this. You seem to be implying that competition and "true combat skills" are mutually exclusive. What do you mean by this?

Fair enough if you don't do fitness in Budo Taijutsu, but do you not do flexibility training at the start and end of class? Would you not get alot of injuries otherwise?

These days evidence shows that static stretching before class does little to reduce the risk of injury. All you need to do is to warm up all of the muscles with some light cardio work and some loco-muscular exercises. Once you are warm and loose you are ready to go.

Flexibility, like strength training, should really be trained separately for maximum effect. You cant beat a good yoga class for this!

You are right about lack of fitness/flexibility leading to injuries though. Being in generally better shape, you run a lot less risk of being injured.
