How do I find out what hardware is on a computer?

    Hey all,

I need some help please, I recently installed Windows XP on the computer, without first having gone to the trouble of checking which hardware was in the computer, on the false assumption that Windows XP would auto install all the drivers needed :o .

Now I need to find out how I can discover which hardware is installed on the computer. I went to the trouble of opening it up but there was no manufacturers name printed on the motherboard and its one of them integrated jobbies, so there are no cards that I could read from either.

I was wondering in specific about a utility called sisoftware sandra. I know this program analyses and enumerates the hardware on the computer, but I don't know if it probes the hardware, or derives the information from the divers previously installed. So if anyone has any experience with this utility and knows its capabilities, please let me know.

Otherwise if anyone knows of a utility that can do what I need please tell me about that too, I'm really in a bind with this.

    Thank you

    Baz_

other than that you are probably concerned with what graphics, network, etc cards are installed. But they should have labels on them, or be integrated and have drivers available from the motherboard manufacturer.

What specifically is your problem with the auto-installed drivers?

My problem is that it didnt install any, for the integrated components, graphics are set at 800*600, and only 4 bit colours hehehe

okay both utilities told me what i need to know, and unfortunately there is a pcchips m583lmr motherboard installed in this pc, and this motherboard is one motherfupper of a piece of hardware to find drivers for on winxp, has anyone had this trouble before??

the best advice ive had so far is just to find the drivers for the individual components on the motherboard, but theyre just as hard to find, and at the moment, im seriously contemplating chewing off my hand so that I have an excuse to go to hospital. anyway, what a load of ballcox
