sometimes its a lose lose situation

if you say yes it does look big, youre accused of being mean etc.

if you say no it doesnt then youre ''only just saying that''

but a good answer of ''you look lovely'' suffices for most situations in my experience

i never ask does my bum look big, i just ask how other people think the fit is. i am always honest when people ask me my opinion on clothes, i feel they deserve to know the truth, not some stupid sugar coated answer. most of my mates appreciate this, and i was often asked out on shopping trips specifically because i was honest with people about how i thought things looked. but then none of my mates were sensitive about their weight, so it was ok to say, nah it makes your ass look twice its normal size or something like that.

Whoah hang on a mo here... This is asking your girl friends their opinion - here honesty is possible.

Asking a guy unless he's gay, you can't seriously expect an honest answer - more of a diplomatic one - unless he's really pissed off with you.

I think the honest answer really only applies when you've been living together for at least several months imho.

[EDIT] This may be true more for poker players. I reckon I'm easily readable when placed in an uncomfortable situation. So women know when I'm lying

Oh god i always answer honestly to that one, 2 older sisters and a mother, whenever they asked i always gave them an honest answer... unless time was short cause it usually ment another hour or two picking out something else

i don't see how living together makes the big-ass affirmation any easier to take, guys and i'm not sure if poker players really have to be hyper-truthful..

be honest if you have to or it's glaringly obvious, but reassure her she's still *sexy*, no matter if her butt has a life of its own. the question itself is an insecure need for reassurance, and if you provide it by deflecting attention away from the size of one body part, to the appealing attractiveness of the whole package, she'll go away (reasonably) happy..
