It's not cliquey at all, I know lots of really nice people in it, it is a really big society and I don't believe it would be as big if it was a clique

you may find more info here and here

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

From all account theres allot of in fighting, and it's more like a political action group then a support group. So I've heard from the horses mouth so to speak.

You always give out LGBT Socs being polically active - what on earth is wrong with that

In-fighting is common everywhere, if the soc is run well, any non-committee people should be protected from it and the fights should be resolved smoothly. As for political slant, UCC LGB does political action while being primarily a social group. I'm sure UCD LGB is the same. We don't provide a support service as we're not qualified, but we can provide a safe environment and direct people to professional services if needs be.

UCD would seem to at a stage where they can't even organise a night out without drama, in fighting, and splitting into groups. So I've heard that is.

Also I believe the primary goal of an LGB society in general should be to provide support of lgb students, and secondly campaign. The first should never be sacrificed for the other. Politics is divisive, and people should have the right to opt out of it, without having to opt out of the society.

Posting half asleep is not a good idea. My main point is that while I've no problem with LGB groups being political, they shouldn't exist purely to drive a political agenda. politics can be important, but the majority of a student body don't care about it, and a university or college LGB soc is there to service the needs of the student body. If it focuses to much on the political element of things its failing in its duty to the general LGB students, that just want a place to commune in a safe environment with people like themselves, not necessarily like minded people. The average LGB student should have the option to be apart of the lgb without being a part of it's politics.

I know allot of people refuse to join trinity lgb because they see a wrong political side of things there. A very hard core element, which may or may not be true, but its the perception. It's probably Ironical me talking about this considering the fact I've no involvement in the social side of the society and (reacently) got allot of involvement on the political front.

the main thing is that to two sides of LGB life need to kept separate as much as possible. some societies seem to have problems with this and as a result can't even decide to attented a party without a vote of no confidence beign taken in the chair.
