I will be travelling to Amsterdam next week and would like to book a room with a double bed either in a hostel or a hotel. I would be willing to pay up to or around 60 euros for the room per night. Does anyone have any places to recommend?

loads of good places to stay in amsterdam. where about you thinking of staying? i stayed near vondellpark (p.c hoofstrasse) where all the posh shops are(guchi versachi, prada ect)! on the map it looked miles out, but was only a 20 min walk to main train station. and 15 mins dam square. amsterdam is a small place,

for 60 a night you'll easily get somewhere nice.

just beware of bums! theyll try and get money out of you any chance they can!

edit: whoops, forgot to day where i stayed! it was hotel bellington(tourist class hotel **), nice and clean(if a little basic), just very steep stairs going up. not every room has a bathroom, so depending on rooms it may be more then 60 a night. but there is bound to be somewhere else better suited for you. not that im not recommending it, it just may be too expensive.

I found a hotel in the eastern islands region, near the zoo and botanical gardens. What is that area like? Is it near to the centre?

The flying pig have a few different hostels around the city and they are all great.
They do dorms/ double rooms etc and the facilities are great, staff are freindly and they have chill out room /bar etc..
