    Well for Vegas...

In Vegas there are many hotels. Each of these is a tourist attraction in itself. When you first get there, just walk down 'the strip' and head into whatever hotel you fancy. You don't have to gamble, just walk around. New York, Paris, MGM....all are worth a look. Almost all will offer free shows (sinking of the pirate ship @ Treasure Island Hotel for example) Don't miss the water fountain display in front of the Bellagio. I think it's every half hour until 1am.

Don't be afraid to go for the bigger, more well known hotels. Rooms in Vegas, esp midweek, are dirt cheap. The whole idea is to offer you cheap rooms so that you'll gamble in their casino more than the others.

I've been there twice, and each time I've gambled it's been me, with a bucket of dimes, in front of slot machines. Both times I found that hostesses offered me free drinks once I was sitting in the same casino for about 30 mins+. I didn't really believe it at first but tried in 3 different ones and it was the same ! Once you're gambling, even if it's just 5cent coins, you'll be offered drink (coffee in the morning). Giving a $1 tip per bottle ensures fast service :)

Car hire is pretty cheap but usually the offers advertised don't enclude enough mileage to make it to the Grand Canyon. The companies know that people want to drive there and can sometimes take advantage of this fact. It's about a 6-hour drive I think. We stayed in a hotel just outside the national park (the cabins inside we booked 1 year in advance). And it cose us $20 for a 3-day pass for the car and all in it.

The Grand Canyon is amazing. It'll just blow your mind away.

You can hike down into it (there are several route you can take) but as it takes about 3 to get down halfways and they say twice that to climb back up again, you won't make it to the Colorado river and back up in the same day. Last September it was 28°C on top of the Caynon and about 42°C at 1pm inside, halfways down. But you can camp down there if you fancy.

I was in Vegas a few years ago at a conference for work. I stayed at the Bellagio, what a hotel! I took a flight over the grand Canyon and was terrified for the whole trip. I don't want to put you off and I am really glad I did it but the Piper navajoes really move about when airborne. I was really impressed by the venetian and the luxor. Check the beam form the Luxor when you are flying in. There is a Belz shopping Mall as well.
