dual booting HD set up problem

I have my legacy win98SE installed on the primary IDE master channel as the c: dir, i then went and installed win2k on a HD on the 2ndry IDE slave channel (as i had the cdrom as the primary deviuce) that appeared as the d: drive.
After looking at this config i found it was in no way optimal as the drive i had installed win2k on was a ata100 drive but was being limited to ata33 by the cdrom and the drive with my win98 was an ata33. So i tried swapping the drives. now however the system wont boot up at all unless i go back to the original config. after much messing i either get "no boot disk" or i get the dual boot menu but when i select win2k it throws an error with "\winnt\system32\ntrctrl.exe" (think the file name is wrong, will have to check it later).
This problem also happens if i leave the hd where i installed them and add a slave drive to the primary ide channel.
is there any way to fix this without having to install win2k again??

    no i doubt it will.
come on people, anyone able to help at all??

another problem I've changed it so that on the primary ide channel is the ata33 HD and the cdrom and the ata100 HD is on its own on the secondry IDE channel. Even though its on its own its still being detected as ata33 instead of ata100.

have you tried using other boot loaders; apart from the W2K built in one?..

hmmmm have you tried looking at this:

I know it's not exactly the same thing; but it may point you in the right direction?

no because i suppose i dont really understand how a dual\multi boots works in the 1st place :o

thought the info on that link does look helpful. editing the boot.ini might work.
    ta.

any ideas as to why the ata100 hd is only being picked up as ata33?

Umm.. presumingly it would only be detected as a 33 if that was your system max? You using an old system? Might want to try look for a BIOS upgrade.
