hi there, am travelling to dublin in a couple of weeks and am looking for cheap accommodation. i've looked on the hostel websites and they all look fine, but does anybody have any personal experiences to recommend one. i was in Dublin last year and stayed in Rainbows but was a little shocked when my ensuite facilities had no privacy. not a prude by any means but just wish I had known beforehand about the lack of privacy. anyone know any similar hostels like this? A friend of mine stayed in kinlay about a month ago but said that that has mixed shower facilities. Am on a tight budget so have to go for the cheaper rooms/dorms, otherwise would prob get a b&b. basically which ones have the least privacy.

pm me if you'd rather not mention hostel names on the board

    thanx for your help

What do you mean by privacy?

Most hostels aren't very private i.e. you have to share a dorm with a number of people and there are usually communal areas for undressing outside shower cubicles (though you could always change in the toilet if you're that shy). That's the way it goes. In Dublin, I've stayed in Isaac's Hostel (room was very noisy as the dart line goes past right outside the window plus there were people singing in the street below all night) and in Browne's Hostel (this was better, quieter).

what I meant was which hostels have the least privacy for guests. My friend who stayed in Kinlay indicated that the shower room was open to male and female guests as opposed to seperate areas. I know space is an issue for hostels and I accept that, I just wondered which other hostels had this type of openness, as i'm sure its not to everyone's taste and its not the type of info your likely to get from any website. Doesn't bother me in particular but I do think that people should know these types of things before booking, as certain people may feel intimidated in these kind of situations especially if they are travelling alone, etc.

    any help??

Try Litton Lane. Great location and they have some rooms which just have two beds etc... Pretty clean and friendly staff.
