I got a new hard drive and i want to know how do i put windows 98 on it?

is it a new-ish computer?
if so, i would imagine, you just
stick hd in computer,
stick cd in drive
start computer,
win 98 will acost you with installations instructions..

or if its not a computer with the ability to boot from cd, them you could...
eh..
get a computer that does.
or use someone elses machine to install windows on your hd.

What Chad said , stick HD into the machine and place in Windows 98 Cd, it will install .
If it doesnt you must go intot he bios and enable boot from Cd.

Ive tried that and it wont boot even changed the settings in the bios.
I have a booyable floppy and i put it in and it comes up with
cdr101: retry .......
The windows 98 setup files not found

is your cd drive old by any chance?
are the cds your using "Backups" - i.e. cd-r/rw?
does the cd drive continue to make sounds when you stick in the cd for a few minutes?

... any information about your computer?

what did you change in the bios?

I fyou are having trouble booting from the CD, but you can boot from a floppy, there is programme you can get called Smart Boot Manager which you put on a floppy and when you boot of it, it allows you to select what you want to boot off next. Dead handy. I'm sure google could help. Or I could PM/email you it.

I got windows 98 installed i put the hard drive as a slave in another pc and copied win 98 on and installed it through DOS. MY dvd rom drive will not work
and im geting cdr101 error when tring to use the drive through DOS.

sounds like a problem with your cd drive. check the ide cables are installed properly, i.e not back to front and your jumper settings are correct. Try jumpering it for cable select.

go to www.bootdisk.com , download the win Me boot disk. Use it, let it install cd drivers. Go to cd drive. Type "Setup".

win98/95 weren't bootable cd's
