I've been trawling ye olde intarweb in search of a socket 939 board that uses PCI -Express, and it seems there are no chipsets out at the moment.

I've decided to go 939 because of the upgradeability so getting that with agp which is benig phased out seems like a silly thing to do.

Does anyone have any ideas as to when some PCI-Express scoket 939 motherboards might be comng out or are they not expected to arrive for a while yet.

I doubt AGP is going to be phased out in the lifecycle of your new motherboard.
I'm sure you'll be fine with it.

I would agree with the above statement. No need to wait for pci-x. Probably be around christmas before you see socket 939 boards supporting it.

nForce 4 should be announced next month with PCI Express support - one version shipping with two 16x slots if rumours are to be believed. Might be on the shelves in time for Christmas.

Games and the likes should not push top end agp cards beyond their capabilities within the cycle of your board either so you probably have nothing to worry about. Just pick yourself up a 6800 and you'll be grand!

    Christmas eh?

My main interest in PCI express is the SLI thing, also when i buy a 450 euro gfx card its to last me about 2 years

I think i'll just buy a nice mid range PC with an athlon 64 2800+ and a 9800 pro.

Are PCI-x abd PCI-E the same thing?

No they are not, they are two totally different buses, ppl should learn which is which; it's really annoying seeing pci-x and having to substitute it with pci-e if that person is talking about consumer hardware  It's not that hard really ;)

Change of plan methinks, I think i'll just buy me a desktop replacement laptop with a nice centrino processor and a mobile 9800 when it becomes available from anyone other then Dell.
