Prayer Study 'Flawed and Fraud'

The highly publicised and much touted prayer study by Lobo, Wirth and Cha published in the peer-reviewed Journal of Reproductive Medicine has been exposed as deeply flawed ... and fraudulent. One of its authors (Wirth) has been indicted on various charges. There is a detailed report in this month's Skeptical Inquirer but you can see a summary report here by the same author. Columbia University and the JRM are running for cover.

For the last two years the study has been used as almost definitive proof of the power of intercessory prayer. It points up the danger of sloppy practices and standards in respected peer-reviewed journals and the danger of suspect results of single unreplicated, poorly designed research papers having an unwarranted degree of attention and influence.
