Unwatchable

Although I didn't watch The Rose of Tralee, I did flick onto it (mostly unintentionally) a few times over the last 2 days. I have to say that Ryan Tubridy is as excruciating an individual to watch as any that have gone before him. Yes he is ugly, but it's not just that. People on tv tend/need to be attractive, but those with character can often do well too. Mr. Tubridy is the epitome of the "face for radio" presenter however. He seems to lack control of body and appears uncomfortable and awkward and makes you want to grab him by the shoulders and shake him in a more graceful stance and posture. I know he is getting a chat show and only hope he is located behind a desk for it. It might sound as though I'm being unnecessarily harsh here as everyone is an individual/has their own style etc., but damn it if you are going to push yourself forward as a tv personality you have to work on ALL aspects of your style and posture and expect criticism of your appearance. The likes of Grainne Seoige, Miriam O'Callaghan & Mark Little have been so successful over a number of years because they are not only attractive, but carry themselves well also.
Ryan Tubridy also appears to have an inflated opinion of his own intellect and can come across very pretentious, patronising and dismissive. I wonder will this count against him when he comes to interviewing famous people who are not paid to be in awe of his command of literature, love of old style music and his remarkably simplistic knowledge of international politics. I think I'd prefer him to learn from Gerry Ryan's failures and stick to radio, where like Gerry he can be entertaining ... when he isn't scaling the dizzy heights of his own rectum.

I agree ... ugly people shouldn't be allowed on television, it's hard enough to ignore them on the streets, but to have them blasted into our sitting rooms is one step too far ...

and by that I mean Ryan Tubridy was grand any time I've seen him on tv, far less annoying then the likes of Cat Deely, Denise Van Outen, (that dude who appears with Van Outen all the time), and a whole host of presenters who have beened trained for television since child birth

I managed to catch a few seconds of it as well (in the few moments there wasn't anything happening in the Olympics) and my main problem with Tubridy is that he's too hyper. There's absolutely no coolness to him. If he took a chill pill everything else might fall into line (except of course in the looks department where a little more food would do the world of good)

I saw about 8 seconds of the Rose's there last night, it wouldn't inspire me to ever watch it again. Just some muppet talking to other muppets. The last time I watched it must be about 15 years ago, when I was living at home and had no choice I guess. Hated it then almost as much as Eurovision, I think I hate Eurovision more now though.
Most of what's on RTé is unwatchable tripe.

Just some muppet talking to other muppets.

As opposed to "I didn't watch any of it but I'm going to slag it off on the internet so that I look really cool... Hur hur hur..."

watched some of it, very little mind, and a few of the rose's were really hit with the ugly branch a few times....

tbh i think i would have looked better in a dress, compared to the state of some of them....

I spent most of the past two nights surfing the net or watching other things on TV, like the Shelbourne match, so I didn't see it. Ryan is no oil-painting, that's for sure! :)

I thought Tubridy did a good job presenting it. At least he injected a bit of life into it, made a few jokes. Not like the other old bores who presented it previously..
Its kinda laughable, everyone whos commented says they only watched a little bit... ;)
I don't think its fair to judge someone's presenting ability after only viewing their programme for 2 seconds..
So what hes unattractive, theres probably a condition that they have to be. I mean past presenters were either old and/or balding or fat.
    :p

There's no need to criticise Ryan Tubridy for his appearance. There are lots of better things to critcise. Besides, doesn't he make you feel more attractive ?

I think this is a problem with all of RTE's "new" lineup. They're the same people over and over again. Would it be too hard to get some new people in ? Possibly even from outside of Dublin (and the Kildare/Wicklow suburbs) ?

I guess if the best idea they could come up with was a Danniel O'Donnell chat show...
