    Right lads what u reckon p4 3.+ or amd 64 3500?

Read reviews left right and centre and amd seem to be doing better however i keep having a niggly thought that the p4 will still run the 32bit stuff better that the amd 64.

What is your primary use for the computer? Will you be gaming? If so, get the AMD, they kick ass when it comes to gaming.

If you'll be doing media creation, the Intels are better (but the difference is decreasing). Go for the intel if you'll be using CAD a lot, and other such applications.

For general usage only, get a cheaper chip :p

off topic but looking at your sig, what sort of 12 legal dvd-r could you have queued up.
btw i would get a 3500+ cos i like supporting the main competetion

Mutant_Fruit nailed it down pretty nicely  .
The Intels definetly do shine when it comes to MPEG4 encoding; something to bear in mind if your going to be doing a lot of it.

That fits nicely with an AMD64 then. Enjoy your purchase, and feel free to let us know how far you can overclock it.

The DDR3200 that you have will work nicely (if i remember correctly), so you don't have to go buying new faster ram. If you got decent ram, it should overclock at least a bit.

Well the AMD 64 3500 preforms marginally power than the socket 754 3400 (the 3500 has only half the cahce but being on socket 939 makes better use of the ram) the 3400 is also cheaper. But socket 939 has more of a life. When it comes to gaming the AMD 64 3400 is better than a 3.2Ghz processor so the 3500 would be too. Most people can get at least 200mz overclock from there cpu which is worth about 300mhz intel.

Any advantages the P4 currently have disolve when the amd 64's are ran in a 64 bit OS. While people would say there is no 64bit OS out yet they refer to windows xp 64bit and don't take into account the fact Linux 64bit OS are already available and they are faster at media creation and the rest than the P4 which puts at least on paper a lie that the P4 out preforms the AMD 64 in any task.

Well it is my understanding that comercial use of the 64bit wont be incorperated fully for a few more years which is prob true seen as most people cant even spell linux let alone use it. The main reason i want amd64 is the FSB well more like lack of FSB :D have 1.5gb of kingston proper ram with heatsinks

isn't there supposed to be Nforce4 boards coming out at xmas and also there are no decent PCI-E boards at the moment....I'd argue that there is more life in a socket 939 chip but not in any socket 939 mainboard at the moment.
