Whats the story with the whole meeting of the parents **** on Debs night? Whats the format?- give them a bottle of wine or something (suggestions)?

Also, what to get for the lucky lady?

get the ma a smaller version of the birds choccy's and maybe one flower dickied up nice.

for the girl. it depends, are you going out with her or just going to the debs with her, and how deep are your pockets.

Just drop it in conversation that you practice safe sex. That should put them at ease...

I reckon the old chocolates are a good bet because her whole family can enjoy them. Siblings are just as important to impress as parents.

Just be polite is the most important thing. Generally say as little as possible.

i thought it was a box of choccys and flowers for the oul one and a corsage(the flower thingies) for the young one?

I think the norm is a box of chocolates for the mum, id got for butlers or some hand made chocolates, rather than roses or the like. For the girl you get a corsage and you put it on her left i think, you should find out for definite if its the left or right though. I think the lad normaly goes to the girls house and depending on the relationship the guys parents might meet the girls parents i.e if they are gf and bf.

A bottle of red at about €15 would be a master stroke.

... unless of course one of other of the parents is a recovering alocholic....

    Nothing ventured... blah

After 1 hour at the venue you aren't going to remember, so as mentioned above decent size box of choc's for the family to enjoy. And the usual sh1t for her

Usually you'd just bring a box of chocolates for the mother.
Corsage for the girl (if possible find out what colour her dress is so you can get one that compliments it)
You don't have to do anything over the top just make sure you're chivalrous as in all fairness it really is a girls night make her feel like a princess... or something....

Main thing is to be polite to her family, if they offer alcohol its probably best to go easy on it as you don't want to be polluted going to the venue.

At both my debs' I introduced my date then I fecked off to the kitchen with him and we hung out there and left the parents to talk amongst themselves until it was time to go.

sigh...I've just been asked to a Debs also. The gal is really cool and we get great, so I don't want to let her down. I hate the whole set up though. It was different when it was my debs cuz I knew all the guys and stuff but now all the effort, tux rental, all that, pah... this will be my 3rd. They are ok I suppose. I'm not getting chocs this time though. I'll probably get theatre tickets for them or something classy.

    This is true...

But I had two debs' coz I did TY we were allowed go to the one with our former year and the one with our new year.

Made for two expensive nights out but after staying sober for the first one because of training I went and enjoyed the second one properly. Also got a good laugh at the guy I'd gone with the first year wearing a kilt. God he looked a complete idiot!
