Are there any easy install firewalls out there for Linux?

Preferably one with a GUI. :D

I got completely lost trying to install and configure a "reccommended" command line one. Really, really lost. Lost as in...you get the idea. As in other programs I look for, it doesn't have to do anything special, just give me a window where I can monitor incoming and outgoing traffic and block and allow as needs be.

A search of Google didn't pick up anything I could use, but I don't have the time now to do a proper search. :(

What distribution of Linux are you using? I know that Mandrake comes with a firewall that can be enabled/configured through the MDK Control Centre so I imagine that would be fairly straight forward to setup....however I have never used it myself so YMMV

I'm using fedora, but the firewall gui that comes with it is about as basic as you get. There's always iptables, but I judge altering that beyond me right now.

Bifrost is a firewall management interface to iptables

Firewall Builder is a multi-platform firewall configuration and management tool. It uses the QT libraries which basically means it is free under Linux or BSD

Use Shorewall or IPTables with Webmin.
Full GUI control and well explained.
Yes I know the Unix purists don't agree with using Webmin but it works.
Another option is to use an old machine as a dedicated firewall using Smoothwall or IPCop, of which v1.4 b9 is vert tasty.

man, iptables are great, i mean just iptables --list
and then add your rules, there are loads of easy howtos online.

    http://projectfiles.com/firewall/ might be your man.
It's got useful defaults for a home user, and you simply
have to edit the values of some well named variables like
    INTERNAL_INTERFACES and DYNAMIC_INTERFACES.
A short set of docs on the site cover all the more advanced options.

Firestarter - totally GUI - not a text file in sight (unless you want to see them, of course).

Isn't there an online configurator somewhere too ?

That might be Robert Ziegler's site.
It was available for years and was a great online tool.
    It now requires membership.
I presume you get membership if you buy his book "Linux Firewalls"
but I've only got edition 1, which used ipchains.

I don't think that Iptables have any GUI but it is da best for me ... really easy to use, only took me a few minutes to get a hold on it but it might take a few more hours to master I guess :D
