Sony Vaio CD/DVD Drive problem

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio laptop about 3 years old, the CD/DVD drive has started aacting noisily lately. When a CD is put in it only sometimes sees it and even when it does - it makes loud whirring/clicking noises noises. Is the drive shagged? Is it possible to replace a laptop cd/dvd drive? Cheers
