I'm after buying a new mobo, chip/fan, graphics card and windows xp for my gaming computer. I've recieved everything now and I'm wondering in what order should I go about updating things? Should I swap the new hardware in first and then go about installing windows or should I get windows xp set up and then go about putting in the new hardware. Also I've got win 98 installed on the other computer, do I need to format the harddrive again or can I just install over it? I've got an oem version of windows xp home edition. Thanks again for all the help.

hardware first then software. Make sure its working with win98 first. means if you have problems later you know that its not your hardware.

You can install over windows 98 but its not recommended. Cleaner to do a fresh install, also better in that you can format the drive as ntfs right off the bat.
