    Hi,
I'm looking to buy a new Nitro off-road car. Years ago i got one from The Model Shop in Dublin amd AFAIK they have stopped selling them.

Anyone know anywhere in Ireland where i'd be able to get one?

    Cheers :)

    Marks Models on Hawkins st.

Now they wouldn't have as much nitro stuff as BoysToys but I do know they have Nitro a buggy atm. 90% built in the box, nice big engine,2 speed gearbox,4x4,nice paint job. Fairly tough looking construction, same size wheels\tyres front and rear.
Think its going for €450 made by CEN.

Cheers!. €450 aint cheap though plus i'd imagine 90% built means no Control system?

    I'll have a look :p

Get a HPI Savage .25 w/ 3ch Radio gear from Towerhobbies.com its in America but you'd have it within the week. Definitly the best option, you will pay through the nose for one of these monster trucks in Ireland.

€450 or there abouts should get you probably the best 1/8th Monster truck on the market. You probably will get caught for import duty but ive included that in the €450 I mentioned.

    http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXFLP2&P=ML

Dont buy a CEN btw. Seriously crap

I'm also thinking of buying a nitro monstor truck and have done much research into it I am going to buying from www.towerhobbies.com as the one io want a Traxxas T-Maxx will cost me about €450 yet over here the price is over €800.

Cheers for the replies lads. towerhobbies.com looks like a good option. Will there be any problem importing it? Also is there anyway to calculate the import duty??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,891 ✭✭✭Jammer

Myself and a mate have ordered a good bit of stuff from Tower and havent had any problems so far. I'd recommend a Savage over a T-maxx. They are bigger, just as fast and most importantly more robust.

    Hi,
Yeah i know those Savage ones are..well....Savage. However there are restrictions with shipping to Ireland

The T-Maxx one looks great though and i'll order it soon! Air Delivery is $50. Is there anyway to calculate the Duty ill be charged?? And is there any possibility it'll get siezed by customs?? (Never ordered from Americia before!!)

    Thanks in advance :D

Edit: I rang Planet Fun and their price is €800  So i'm wondering how much i could be hit for Import Duty/Tax??

Originaly I was going to get the savage I think it looks better but the reasons I have decided on www.traxxas.com T-Max are:
      Comes Fully Assembled
      Pre-Painted Body
Easy Start Sytem I.e. you have a starter that spins the Nitro Motor and charges the glowplug. versus a seperate glowplug charge and pull started.
2 speed forward & reverse gears
Has a very details manual which i recomend downlaoding of their website and having a lookthrough.
Comes with a DVD on how to get it going and breaking in the engine.
Cheap "hop-ups" which are the mods you can buy.

There are other reasons but i can't think fo them right now, but the traxxas website is pretty good especially Their support section which has loads of info.

Axel, I have ordered lots from america over the past few years from dvds to motorcycle parts, some stuff gets through without customs but anyhting in a big box will usually be stopped what happens then is you get a phone call saying vat is due, in which case they will jsut take the dollar value convert to euro and add you can expect to pay VAT on this value at 21% i.e about €70 you may also be charge an admin fee or around €10 in which case it still works out a lot cheaper then buying here.

Cheers Furp, Looks like we'll be ordering the same car then :D

So if its stopped 21% is the most they can charge on the Euro cost of the product? Plus a possible €10 charge? If so it'll come no where near €800!!

        /me gets credit card ready...

Edit: The car & Postage is €328. Not bad at all Around €400 total then, thats without the $20 discount they have on the site

Sorry about telling you about the CEN buggy if its crap. Only ever had Mugen nitro cars.Thats a good price for the Traxxas stuff alright.
. I've never had anything stopped at customs coming from the U.S. Items were $400+ so hopefully you'll be alright.

Hmm.... I'm thinking now that i'll order it from a UK site. €100 More Inc P&P but no risk having to pay Import Duty

        Hi Furp,
Yeah the Revo looks amazing alright. A good £100 more expensive than the T-Maxx though.

Anyway i ordered from www.ktmodels.co.uk. ordered a t-maxx, fuel tank, Spare body and a fail safe (Should come in handy at some point :p) total of close to €600 inc Delivery. i should have it this week but i am having some problems getting the guy to Send it (changing my order etc ) Will ship tomorrow through DHL

        Will keep this thread updated,
        Alex.

Great Axel let us know how you get on with the T-Maxx it looks like a great machine and its big too.

From what I ahve heard that fail safe will come in very handy too if you run out of power.

I have to admit I am envious, hopefully I can gt one soon but with family commitments it might be a while.

Just one question about the fuel traxxas recomends its own fuel have you found a supplier for that over here or are you going to use a different brand as when i was checking otu i could only fine 10% 25% etc nitro fuel whereas the traxxis one is 20% nitro, also on after run oil you can buy one just for your truck but a lot of people seem to reccomend using good old WD40

      • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,312 ✭✭✭SLIM19198

wd40 is not recommended as it is just a lubricant, after run oil actually removes water from the engine as well as lubricating, to stp rusting and seizure of the engine!

        HTH

Yeah i dont think you can get top fuel here  anyway is really expensive $130 for a gallon  from tower hobbies which wont ship it for obvious reasons :D

i took a trip to "boyztoys" (such a kip) and bought some fuel as far as i can tell its 16% which is close enough.

I dont really know what i'll use for after run oil though.... Ill have to look into it. I'll post some pics of it when i get it just for you furp ;):p

I know I went there when they first opened and they had a great selection of stuff and lots of stock, and when i was there last month I was shocked by the way the place had gone, they had nothing and the place looked like it had been cleared out by a bomb.

I must find the other RC place though www.planetfun.org they are near Tolka park.

I have gone back to wanting the T-Maxx again becasue of budget but mainly that there are loads and loads of parts available for it, and it will be a while before there is such a selection for the Revo.

When you get you Maxx be careful to do the run-in as they state, don't want to go ruining that new engine
        :D

I will wait for the Pics, do you have places in your area where you can run your Maxx. to the limit.

UPdate: I was just checking the planet fun website and they had the top fuel under the accessories but it just gave their phone number to get a price.

You could probably get the recomended afterun oil from them too. I would definitley say though that you when buying the cheaper parts that getting them mailed from the states would be cheaper and would avoid vat.

Yeah i was majorly disappointed with boyztoys. they did have a savage for €790 though (not sure if it was a 25 or a 21  )

I was down i Dublin last week looking in some shops, what a waste of time. Went to Marks models thay had a pritty impresive CEN truck in the window for €850 50+ MPH. Apart from that nothing. looks like Planet fun is the best place however i missed it  I went out to Blancherstown as thats where i though it was, then found out it was out near croke park   Might have to take a trip there to pick up some loose ends, batteries, oil etc.

Would you say some small parts from towerhobbies would avoid vat? Like shocks and stuff? The RPM stuff seams like to most robust replacement parts around. however the aluminium stuff adds a great bling factor :D See attatched pic :)

Yeah i live in the country and have about an acre of space to use it :) Must make some ramps..... Yeah i was reading some threads on the Traxxas pages and the breaking in procedure seams fairly important alright.

Oh and an update on my order from ktmodels. Apparently the car is'nt in stock (Even though he said it was  ) and he promised he would send it tomorrow :(

Oh just a final though. Seams that all the cars around use the "pistol" type controller. I never really like it, much prefer the two stick ones like old Tyco R/C cars :D

        Alex.

Just an update on my T-Maxx :)

I got it last Wednesday, took about 2 weeks from when i placed the order on ktmodels.co.uk. I would definitly not recommend them  Took him a week to ship the thing and about a week and a half to get it after that (Omega express lost my address etc)

I still havn't started it though as the battery for the ez-start i was using was about 3 years old  So i ordered a new one from www.modelsport.co.uk and two glow plugs on thursday at 11pm and they arrived this morning :D Highly recommended.

So thats about it, i plan to break it in tomorrow (If it stops raining ;) )Oh and as promised a pic :D

        Pic

        cool Axel,

I was only thinking about this yesterday and thought that it was taking a long time for you to get your t-maxx, good look and I hope the weather clears so you can break her in.

Anybody with nitro rc cars know where to run em down south?
Preferably in or around cork city?

Any other rc'ers down around here?

Hi, sorry about the late reply

I had a bit of a problem with the truck

Basically, i was breaking it in, on the fifth and last tank when the thing locked in full throtle and hit a fence  also it stayed in full throtle until i reached it. I still dont know why this happened as i checked the radio controlls befor i started it up. Might have had something to do with the fail safe, which i have since taken out. After this it would not start or even turn over. So i went through the whole after run procecure and left it for about a week. Brought it out today and it started in 5 seconds :D:D So i just started driving it today really.

I gotta say its excellent. Flipped it twice already  which i wayyyy to easy to do :) Thats it really (until i build a ramp)

Are you still geting the REVO?

        Alex.
