Liverpool's Nunez Injured

Check it out on the official site.

"Liverpool have been dealt a huge blow today with news that new midfielder Antonio Nunez has picked up a knee injury in training.
On the day he was officially unveiled as a Liverpool player, the former Real Madrid star was forced to leave training early after twisting his left knee. No other player was involved in the incident.

As a precaution, Nunez was accompanied by the club doctor for an x-ray which, thankfully, showed he had not sustained a fracture.

The club suspect Nunez may have suffered ligament damage but they won't know for sure until he undergoes a scan tomorrow afternoon. Until the results of the scan are known, it is impossible to predict how long the player will be out of action.

Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton said: "We are all desperately disappointed for Antonio because this injury has come at such a bad time for him. We will know more about his injury on Thursday afternoon."

Nunez is definitely ruled out of tonight's reserve match at Middlesbrough and will almost certainly miss the weekend clash with Manchester City at Anfield."

So much for the new boy then,

Its unfortunate but not the end of the world as he was only an "extra" in the Owen deal really, Alonso should be ready to join any second...though he may not make it for Saturday.

    Mike.

We're without Smicer, Diouf and Murphy - 3 players of various merit that would normally be used to fill the right hand side. I think Nunez is slightly more then an "extra" and the boss was interested in him regardless of how he actually joined - being lumped into the Owen deal.

It'll work out brilliantly if Partridge is given a chance and shines but if we get Xabi for the weekend then he'll start in the middle with either Dietmar or Igor and Stevie on the right (I reckon).

    < edit >

Sorry, forgot about Finnan - guess we could squeeze him in ahead of Partridge too, sorry Ritchie...

Is Richie not still sidelined with an injury?

Doesn't matter, if we need him we can prod him on with a stick.

You could well be right - he didn't feature in last nights reserves match.

Yep, he's injured about a year now. Should be back in a week or two.
